Review: Sonore ultraRendu
Follow-up to my original post above: The founder of Sonore Computer Audio informs me, "You can select the onboard USB output directly in HQ Player’s settings." I have not recently (if ever) tried to feed HQ Player output from my sonicTransporter ...
So This Really Is The End....
I miss our local Borders bookstore. Not just the book and music selections (which were pretty good) but also the cozy reading nooks. Long gone, along with our local hardware store with its excellent lumber yard and shop. I walked into that shop on...
When Will the DAC Singularity Be Reached?
You've been reading too much ASR.  Cheap DACs are not outperforming high end DACs.   Well, some of them are in the ASR tests.  Where can I see an alternate set of objective measurements that shows they aren't?  Or even a well-managed set of sub...
Mac Mini As A Streaming Source
If you do decide to try HQPlayer, the Roon community forum is a good resource for setup and configuration. In fact, whenever I need support, I rarely go directly to the HQP site, I go to the Roon forum (https://community.roonlabs.com/)  Many parti...
Mac Mini As A Streaming Source
Is there anyone here who has never watched a movie on a computer?  Does computer "noise" ruin the movie-watching experience?  Did you feel the need to install special power-conditioning components to clean up the signal?  There are good reasons t...
Mac Mini As A Streaming Source
In the past I have used a 2014 Mac Mini, usually running headless, to run Roon Core and other music-related processes (including HQ Player, BAACH4Mac, and the HD Tracks downloader).  I currently have Roon Core running on a dedicated music server (...
$50k - $80k Budget…Opinions please.
With that budget, you might be able to build a dedicated listening room.  Depending on many factors, of course (such as the amount of work you do yourself and your existing floor plan).
Next step into Digital Streaming
The Bluesound Vault would be a convenient option, since you already have a Node. I'd probably lean toward a general purpose computer instead.  You can get a Mac Mini M2 for less than the price of a Vault, and it will do more.  You could set it up ...
Prospectives on Chi-Fi
The weak link in my Matrix Audio gear is the company's service/support.  It's not terrible, but I don't think it can compare to what you get from, say, Benchmark (whose products are "designed, assembled, tested, and shipped worldwide from ... head...
HT and 2 channel in same room? 1 or 2 systems?
more than a few people have suggested this might be way over-thinking and over-complicating this and that I should just listen to music thought my multi-channel setup and forget the 2 separate systems Or, just listen to TV through your 2-channe...
It was 61 years ago today...
I was 10 in 1964. The Beatles' Ed Sullivan show appearances were such a huge hit, first because they were good, and second because that kind of performance on "family" TV was almost unprecedented. The Sullivan show  was warmed-over 1920s-era vaude...
Under my tower speakers -- Isoacoustics Gaia, other options?
I bought the Gaias and returned them. I suspect any difference people report is attributable to the effect of raising the speakers closer to ear level. In my case, they made the speakers too wobbly for my liking.
Using streaming as a main source ---DSD, FLAC, MQA Streamers and DACS
honestly I wish BlueSound would make a $5k high end option - that might be the best of everything for a while.  Well, their parent company (Lenbrook) already does, if you consider some of their NAD offerings "high end" enough. NAD's M50.2 goes ...
DAC recommendations
Maybe I'm missing something here.  To me, it does not make sense to upgrade an already-good DAC (or two) without first moving on from the low-res Airplay/WiFi connection.   Stick with Apple Music if you like, but ditch Airplay/WiFi (for music pla...
Why are so many people spending so much money to build “perfect” streaming system?
@laoman  On Qobuz, among the 29 available Ring recordings I cited above, some are indeed excerpts (~3 hrs or less).  Others appear to be full Ring versions (or presumably as "full" as the original physical medium offered), including: James Levin...
