mcintosh mc402+c46 or mc402+c2200,2300
Did you hear any differences in the bass extension and control between to C46 and C2200? Do you have speakers that go deep so those differences matter? I've noticed bigger differences than I would have expected among preamps (ARC, Krell, VTL) in t...
Wilson Sophia 2--- VTL S-150 or Ayre V1-xe?
Hi Cipherjuris,I'm looking at getting used Sophia 1's, and would be using them with a Krell stack (KCT & FPB400cx), Nordost Blue Heaven cables, & Marantz SA-7S1 CDP. In what way did the Krell setup disappoint you?
Sophia 2 with Plinius?
If you want Krell-like bass control, how about a Krell amp? The amps are awesome for slam and bass control. I have a FPB400cx, and have discovered that it really is a chamelleon. Used with an ARC pre it was sweet, and used with a Krell pre it was ...
Wilson Sophia 2's on Marantz Reference
So now that you've had some time with that setup, how do you like it? I have the SA-7S1 feeding a Krell stack (KCT and 400cx), and am looking at the Sophia's (probably the 1's for the price). I'm thinking that the wonderfully warm, smooth quality ...
Upgrading from Wilson Sophia 2's?
I have a fairly aggressive system, and went with a Marantz SA7S1 as my new CDP. I love it. It is has plenty of detail, but is also very relaxed and a bit on the warm side, so easy to listen to for hours. Might be something to consider to balance y...
Marantz SA7S1 owners - stock or modded
I have no doubt that in your room, in your system, you are hearing something you find too bright and etched. However, since none of the many professional reviews, nor reviews from long-time owners (including myself), have expressed hearing anythin...
Marantz SA-7S1 Vs Cary 306 and Esoteric X-03SE
I own the Marantz SA-7S1, and couldn't be happier. It's a player that will be easy to live with for a long time to come. As it has broken in it has disappeared from the system, and what is left is lovely, warm, rich music that floats in the front ...
Hi Wilson W/P8 owners, best amp ever to drive WP8?
I have a Krell cx series amp, and have found that it really reflects the upstream components. You didn't tell us what preamp you are using, but perhaps a good tube pre (REF 3?) might do the trick for you. That way you don't have to give up that le...
break-in for Marantz SA-7S1
In response to Mrtennis, having heard an SA11S1 through my own system I would not have qualified opinion of that player. If you are hearing a hardness through your system, fair enough. I can tell you that there is nothing hard or glaring about my ...
break-in for Marantz SA-7S1
G - there is no SA-7S2. The SA-7S1 is the most current model right now.
break-in for Marantz SA-7S1
Here's the report after 500 hours -At 200 hours it got much smoother and easier to listen too - the slight brittleness was gone. At 300 hours it relaxed, and the soundstage, frequency extremes, and dynamics expanded. At 500 hours the music is now f...
break-in for Marantz SA-7S1
In the interest if not disparaging this lovely player unfairly, my first comments were after an inappropriately short break-in period. I left it alone for awhile, and listened again today after about 200 hours burn-in, and it is much enjoyable. I’...
Anyone permanently convert from tubes to SS?
I like a tube pre and SS amp - best of both worlds. Specifically a new ARC LS-26 (I love this pre!) and a Krell FPB 400cx. It's a velvet glove holding on to a slegehammer.
Audio Research Reference CD-7
About your preferences about the looks of the ARC CD7, just goes to show how different we all are. I really like it. I like it by itself, and I'd like it next to my new LS-26 (I would - but haven't decided about soending the money). As to the comm...
What did you replace your Aerial 10T's with?
Stringreen,Describing the Krell as a 'sledgehammer' is not far off, which can be really fun at times for the slam, and my new ARC LS-26 has really smoothed out the hard edges on the softer material.
