Preamps opinion
I’ve owned an LS 26, and now have an ARC Ref 5se. The LS 26 was a disappointment. It had a beautiful midrange - I literally stopped in my tracks when I first fired it up and put on CSN, and I was out of the room in the doorway!  But it was bass sh...
Pass Labs AMP’s- What is the best Pass Amp Sound for You from past 10 years
I have an X250.8 with Sophia 2's. I'm very happy with the combination. Very natural, organic mids and highs, and excellent bottom end extension and weight. Slam is very good (but not a Krell). Outstanding, realistic 3D imaging. I think the Pass br...
What's the difference between a Pass Labs X250.8 and the X260.8 mono's?
I wish - out of my price range. But thanks. I asked about the ones that I CAN afford.
My #@%$ Cat Destroyed My ARC REF 5SE. Soliciting Suggestions.
The Ref 5se is an exceptional piece. I love mine. I bought it earlier this year for $6K, and then put in new tubes. I usually see them going for $6,500 on Agon. I guess the advantage to fixing yours and spending $7K is that you get a new main boar...
ditch the Krell FPB 400cx for my 'new' Sophia 2's?
I ended up getting a Pass labs X250.8. Not much if any compromise in the bass, and a big improvement in midrange (more natural, more substantial 3D mages) and high end (great detail but more relaxed and integrated into the overall sound).

Pass Labs AMP’s- What is the best Pass Amp Sound for You from past 10 years
I just bought a Pass Labs X250.8 and am loving it. The rest of the system is an ARC Ref CD8 and ARC Ref 5se, and Sophia 2's. It has the bass weight, extension and slam I wanted (my last amp was a vintage Krell FPB 400cx - so I'm comparing my Pas...

4425 - You make a great point. Thanks for that.
Life after Aerial 10Ts...
I've had my 10T's since 2001. There was a reason they tied for Stereophile Speaker of the Year in the late 90's. But they need big SS power as been mentioned before. With a big Krell amp they have been really fun. But now I want change, because th...
Aerial 10T Mk2 - Suitable Amplifier?
I have had my 10T's since I bought them new in 2001 for $6,900 (with the Sound Anchor stands). Something equivalent would be at least $15K today. Fantastic, musical speaker. It's recommended that you have a high current amp with  min 200 watts to ...
Aerial Acoustics: 10T, CC5, and SR3 Value?
Agreed. I've seen them typically offered on AG at $1,800. I still have my pair from 2001. Talk about a great value for some lucky buyer!
Adding Tone Controls?
Shakeydeal, you might want to read the recent review of the DSPeasker Dual Core in TAS. He addresses your blind bias towards equalization in very thoughtful way. He points out that the professionals that engineered the recordings you buy use EQ ex...
Bob Carver LLC Black Beauty Review
Jonathan Valin was very positive in his review in Audiogon, and he's a freak about uncolored accuracy. He said they were on the romantic side, and loved them anyway.
Audio Research, next upgrade?
I had an LS 26, and compared to what it replaced (a bottom of the line VTL tube pre), the low bass was anemic. You have good bass in your speakers and amp, so if you like low end extension and weight, replace the preamp. I went SS to match my amp,...
Audio Research Ref 5 and Krell amps
Boisehomes, I tried an LS26 with my Krell FPB400cx, running 10T's. It replaced a VTL tube pre at the bottom of the VTL line. It was very disappointing. The mid's were very nice, but the deep low end that 10T's are capable of disappeared. Really an...
