SS integrated amp that has tube like qualities
I have owned quite a few integrated amps over the years and the amp that meets your description best is the Portal Panache. Now to put that in perspective I have only owned one tube amp in the last five years so take my recommendation for what it'...
Confused With Options To Obtain BestQuality iTunes
I am no expert in this field but having just completed the process, after much research, I'll share what I learned. BTW, when I say just completed I mean I finished ripping cds yesterday and hooked everything into my system last night. I can tell ...
Have you been Shpongleized?
Some of the most interesting song titles I've seen in a while. I'll order a couple of them for a trial. I say this over and over. Music discoveries is my favorite aspect of Audiogon.
good quality multi-disc CDP?
A quality dac with the Sony mentioned above should do it. There is a Bel Canto DAC2 being auctioned now. Not sure of the seller but that is a very sweet dac and will probably go at a reasonable price.
Advice: CD's to Hard Drive and Back Again
Nab2, did you try it after reading this thread? I downloaded it Sunday and gave it a whirl. The only issue I had was when saving the files to itunes it put them in a folder called "Unkown artist." Even though all of the cd information was imported...
Advice: CD's to Hard Drive and Back Again
Timrhu - Itunes doesn't rip bit perfect even with error correction on. Some of my CDs have bad scratches and MAX with "do not allow to skip" option refuses to rip them (rip gets stuck and never ends) while Itunes have no problem with it.I have exp...
Advice: CD's to Hard Drive and Back Again
No offense intended I assure you. I was just curious. As for ripping off artists, I too always purchase music legally, have never downloaded any music. It's just that ripping cds to a hard drive is a pain. I know because I am swapping cds in and o...
Advice: CD's to Hard Drive and Back Again
Since there's no such thing as a dumb question let me ask, why do you need to back up your cds? I understand backing up a hard drive because the ripping process is such a pain, but making copies of your cds on a hard drive and then making cdrs? It...
What Chores do Audiophiles Hate?
Don't mind cutting grass but all other yard work is a chore. I'm talking about raking leaves, cleaning the landscaped areas, weed-whacking and general clean-up. In fact tomorrow is that day for this fall. If the weather cooperates I'll be at it to...
Would you pay to listen?
Call me jaded but I doubt any system can make my "jaw drop" anymore. And besides, their are a few dealers in town that display super hi-end systems. All I have to do is walk in and pop on some music, at least that has been working. Unfortunately, ...
A 'First' System for my Son
I gave my 15-year-old grandson an old pioneer recvr, HK-8350 5 disc cdp, a pair of cheap Dayton Audio bookshelf speakers and a cable for his ipod. He's in audio heaven with this system. Remembering my first stereo I would have loved what he's got.
Would you pay to listen?
Maybe I'm the odd one on Audiogon but I have nada, zero, no desire to listen to a $100K system. Seen them, heard them and after the initial "shock and awe" my conclusion is, what a waste. Do they do things my paltry system won't? Sure. Does my sys...
Which attributes do you value most?
Natural, I like that one word description. I want to hear music, not electronic components. Credit to Ngjockey.
Dumb question? WHAT IS YOUR SEAT/ CHAIR?
Another vote for the Ikea Poang. Inexpensive, comfortable, and supportive. One important sonic factor for when looking for chairs is to ensure your ears will be above the chair back. I found this out when I switched from a leather recliner to the ...
Monoblocks, passive bi-amped or passive tri-amped?
I have been doing lots of research, but to no avail.Kal's first response pretty much answers this. If you really want the answer though, you'll have to experiment to know for sure.
