How many got back into vinyl post divorce?
My ex got the vinyl.
Varying ways in which artists approach their music
When I think of intellectual I think of progression, not putting out the same album over and over with slight variation. With that in mind:Joe Jackson.Jane SiberryRyan AdamsThose three immediately popped into my head. I'll come up with some newer ...
Is the Classe Cap-101 enough for Totem Arros?
I wasn't going to make a recommendation but since Ethanh brought it up. The Unison Unico, or one of their similar models might work for you. I am using a Unico right now and hope to keep it for a while. It's only 80 watts but it drives my Meadowla...
Is the Classe Cap-101 enough for Totem Arros?
I owned the CAP-151 a few years ago. It was one of those pieces that I wasn't sorry I sold. It was ok but I can sum my impression up with one word, meh. Not a word but it gets the point across. In the used market there are a lot better IMO.
Compact Disc as a format
Mitch2I agree with Grannyring and I still like the simplicity of grabbing a disc, putting it in a player and selecting what I want to hear. I have two great sounding players that both do hi-rez so any download I want can simply be copied to DVD an...
REL T1 or T5? apples to oranges?
I have a T2 that I got on ebay from a local guy. I really like this sub and am watching for a good deal on one of REL's R series subs. One thing to keep in mind with REL is you are going to use your speaker outputs for connection. My current amp h...
Audiogon sellers, please stop and read this thread
I have received a couple offers like this one. They are answered in the foulest effing language I know, and 20 years in the military taught me some good stuff.
CD player to compete with my vinyl rig?
I think you are looking at this the wrong way. My experience tells me the sound/flavor/character of a cdp is in the design/implementation of the analog output section much more than in the data conversion section. Not saying the conversion is unim...
Damien Jurado/Maraqopa
I discovered Damien Jurado here a few years ago in a thread talking about "chilling" songs. The opening cut on "Where Shall You Take Me" is one of those eerily hair raising songs that gets me every time. The cd is nowhere as upbeat as Maraqopa. If...
CD player to compete with my vinyl rig?
The Resolution Audio CD50 convinced me to stop listening to vinyl and go strictly digital seven or eight years ago. I did extensive comparisons at the time and what I decided was well mastered cds beat vinyl for me. Poorly mastered cds sounded bet...
McCormack DNA-125 with Thiel 2.4. Good idea?
4BSST too expensive? How about a 4BST? That should be within your price range.
Help with fatiguing sound in my PC system
Although I have read reviews of the DLIII, I can't recall any mentioning the USB input. My listening experiments revealed much better results with either the coax or toslink input vs the USB. Can't say it was fatiguing as I didn't listen long for ...
Help with fatiguing sound in my PC system
You're referencing speakers with metallic tweeters, a solid state DAC that is known to be bright (similiar to the Benchmark DAC1), and you're driving your amp directly with one of those types of DACs?Mb9061Really? I don't find the PS Audio dac bri...
Help with fatiguing sound in my PC system
I use a Mac Mini for my computer audio so not sure how well this applies. I am however, using the PS Audio DLIII which I don't find fatiguing in my setup. Not going to offer advice but will tell you what I did to get sound that rivals my cdp.First...
Tinning Cardas Litz Wire - The simple way
Where were you a few years ago when I had a pair of StraightWire Black Silc cables that needed tinning. I ended up buying a solder pot on ebay to perform the task.Although I must say, I sold the solder pot for 3 times what I paid for it, after cle...
