Cable with Neutrik Speakon connector If you have a cable you like, this is a very easy DIY project. I bought my REL sub used and the seller neglected to include the cable. Piece of cake to build one.
Sturdy sub - $50 in-ear headphones? My recommendation is a set of theseKlipschearphones. Very good for the money. I can't really speak to their ruggedness but mine are more than a year old with no issues.
"The Heat Pipes are coming"... The Heat Pipes are I love a good resurrection. And just in time for the hot summer months.
R.E.M. - "Automatic for the People" My go-to sites for questions like this woulde be Steve Hoffman Forum and Discogs.Roscoeiii+1I discovered that site about a year ago. Fantastic place.
Cleaning the equipment When I buy something used I always remove the cover and clean the inside. I also use the opportunity to take some pics for future use. And not just if I decide to resell, I just like seeing how things are put together and comparing them to other p...
Analytical or Musical Which way to go? After owning speakers of many different designs and flavors, I'll take musical. The speakers I use don't look nearly as good on paper as some of the others but they sound much better to my ear. Actually, instead of the term musical, I describe the...
Ohm Walsh Microtall or Vandersteen 1C There is a pair of MWTs listed on AudioAsylum's classified section now for $550. No affiliation with seller, just thought I'd mention it.I have owned the Vandy 1Cs (twice) and feel they are fantastic for the money.
Downward facing subwoofer on carpet, bad idea? I tried my REL sub both ways, over carpet and next stting on a large tile, the carpet is my preference. It's easy enough to check yourself to see/hear which works best for you.
Idol fans weigh in ChayroI think the show is a joke.+1With zero criticism, how can you take it seriously? Sure, there are some decent "singers," but they can be found anywhere.
Buying top brands's older CD players: Pros& Con I use a Resolution Audio CD-50, it's more than ten years old but I haven't heard a cdp I like better and I have heard many. I purchased an extra laser to ensure the machine's longevity.
Mini Monitors under $500 used I'm currently listening to a pair of Usher S-520s. Pretty darn good for the money. Real lookers also.
Small wall-mount speaker recommendations? I use a pair of Gallo Diva ti speakers mated to the Galo MPS-150 sub with very good results. They more than met my expectations considering their size. Very easy to hide or mount in odd places.
XLD ripping slowly My XLD rips seem to have slowed down after the last update. The last rip took more than 30 minutes, normally they finish in just a few minutes. Is this an every time occurrence? I won't rip without XLD. Are you sure you didn't rip it 3 times? ;)
Increasing height of stand-mount -- what to expect It depends on the speakers. Of course the general rule is to have your ears at the same height of the tweeters but with two particular speakers I have found this didn't work. My Silverline SR11s sounded much better with the tweeter raised a few in...
suggestions for updating via DAC..... It would be helpful to know what you are missing with the NAD? A few years ago I owned the C541i and thought it was great for the $. |
