Best drive for PERPETUAL prodcuts A buddy of mine is getting excellent results (to my ears--very natural, non-fatiguing, musical output) with a (now discontinued)Parasound CDB 2000 transport. However, he is running the P1-A and P3-A combo via I2S Audio Magic cable between the upsa...
Spades or bananas Spades provide more contact area, thus a better electrical connection. However, bananas are easier to connect and disconnect. As far as sound goes, spades are better in my experience. As Marakanetz states above, no termination is probably the best...
the "ultimate" amp or preamp If the so called "superior" parts used in a design have no improved sonic value compared to less expensive parts as deemed by the listening panel of an audio manufacturer, then I would have to say no. Also, keep in mind that the circuit design of ...
what is the best speaker cable? Vinnie:Keep in mind as you are searching for speaker cables that there is NO one best speaker cable. It depends on your system, your musical tastes and how you want your music to sound.Happy listening,TimP.S. However, I have found that the Discove...
Looking for an upsampler-which one? If you can afford it get the dCS Purcell 24/192 upsampling unit. If you are on a budget pick up the Perpetual Technologies P-1A. My buddy has the P-1A and P-3 DAC combo and it is quite refined.Good luck.
Which small but great monitors? Try the Sound Dynamics 300Ti if you can find a pair. I use them in a second system with some first class components with excellent results.
ARC 100.2 vs. MF AC3R vs. McCrmak DNA125 I highly recommend that you add the Ayre V-3 solid-state power amp to your list above. Puts out 100 w/ch into 8 ohms and 200 into 4 ohms. I have three of them and they are awesome!Go to www.audioreview.com to check out mine and other reviews on th...
sound dynamic vs, paradigm The Sound Dynamic 300ti loudspeakers, in my opinion, outclass the Paradigm 20's in every way. However, finding a pair of 300ti's on the used market will be difficult. I am pairing the 300ti's with some very high class electronics: Museatex CDD-1 t...
Do Transparant Cables have a sonic sig? Remember, all cables have a sonic signature!
Tubes or SS Amps for ML Requests I don't own a pair of Requests, however, I have had some experience listening to them with both solid state and tubes. My conclusion: I recommend tubes, especially the ARC VT 100 Mk. II stereo amp.
Suggestions for filling speakers stands? Lead shot works wonders for my Sound Dynamics 300ti bookshelves.
Maggie break in time LOTS DUDE! Be patient.
Toslink vs. Coaxial In my experience, coax is sonically better. If you use toslink, try Kimber Kable's. It is what I use in my car audio system.Happy listening!
Coaxial or Optical If you have Toslink digital outputs/inputs don't bother with optical connections as the Toslink, in my experience is inferior sounding to the coax connection. However, if you have AT&T optical connections you may want to experiment between opti...
Preamp suggestions needed Go for the CJ PFR dude. I speak from experience as I purchased one used on Audiogon some months ago for $1150. If you can't get the one on auction, be patient; it IS worth the wait for another to appear. I am running mine with an Ayre V-3 solid-st... |
