Capacitor Size I've re-capped several vintage amps recently, and the new electrolytic caps are indeed smaller in most cases. So no, as long as he used a quality brand of capacitor from a reliable supplier, you should be good to go. Happy listening!
Which is Your Favorite Marantz Amplifier? A friend loaned me a pair of the MA9s2 a while back. Paired with Dynaudio speakers- MAGIC! Effortless and complete- even at nearly full throttle. I have an 1120 which is nice, and a 2230 which is remarkably good sounding, but those monoblocks are ...
Capacitor update - how do they sound like? These should be plenty bright-I have some and even with the presence and brilliance knobs less than halfway up there is lots of treble.Determine that the tweeters are working. If you can't hear them, make sure they're not blown. if they are still ...
30 Years of Perfect Sound? Or better yet- burn a copy of the manufactured cd onto a good quality cd-r and it improves. Moral of the story-Use as much of whatever you've got to make the experience meaningful for you. I'm pretty happy listening to Bob Wills and the Texas Play...
Subwoofer hitting floor...solution? Agree with the comments mentioning excessive excursion- you will toast the voice coil eventually. You don't mention the room size- but perhaps adding a second sub to split the load between the two would be a viable approach.
Harman Kardon HK 990 integrated amplifier I've heard it briefly through Monitor audio speakers a couple of years ago. Very good sounding- the HK sound seems to have remained pretty consistent IMO. Tight, solid bass with weight and impact, imaging was very nice, top end can have a hint of ...
Speakers for Sansui AU-666 The kind of music you like may help you narrow the field a bit. I have a similar sized room and ADS L-710's are great in there. I think the 570 is a two-way speaker vs the 710 which has a mid.- Also Have the JBL-4311(the l-100 is the home version ...
Solid State for Rock and Tubes for Jazz, Yes or No Tubes are usually my preference for music featuring woodwinds, brass, strings and vocals. Bombastic percussion and driving rock is often better left to solid state IMO. One each is pretty nice option!
Scratchy Volume Control for Analog It could be DC on the potentiometer. If you're using a phono pre-amp (or your turntable has one built-in) it could be outputting some dc voltage which can make the pot sound dirty when it is moving. You may need some fresh caps in the phono pre. I...
Mission Speaker Repair in Minnesota Jeff at Savage Audio or Casey Gooby (works through Willies American Guitars), also Chris at Twin Town Guitars in Minneapolis. Any of these three are MORE than qualified to work on these/ rebuild the crossovers. All three of them have done work for...
Realistic STA-2100D Service Manual Needed Have you tried Vinylengine on the web?
Protection Kicking On At Low Volumes? Could be something environmental in the manufacturing process; perhaps the contacts were plated in a strong solution that was not rinsed well enough, could be humidity in your house. Let the tech fix it- it could be something other than the relay-...
Old NAD or newer high powered Denon? I would agree that you need more and better power. I had a pair of the Vandersteen 1b and they weren't happy with the NAD 7125. The Harman Kardon 655vxi or the Luxman Rx 103 drove them very nicely. The 655vxi was 90 watts and the Luxman was 70 or ...
Taming edge from remastered CDs? I second Elizabeths suggestion to burn a cd-r from the cd's and try that. It's the cheapest test and involves exactly zero changes to your system. I now do this with almost all of the cd's I like. They sound better than the factory discs in every c...
Need speaker for a small space and close to wall I have had very good luck in a similar situation with Dynaudios- I have an older model called the Special One and they have served me well in that capacity. |
