Who can fix Supratek preamp???
Kevin Covi co-designed the Cortese. He is located in the U.S. Try krcovi@gmail.com.
triplanar have a din- replace cable w synergistic
Din connections are not standard with the Triplanar. I asked Tri to make a din junction box for me a couple years ago. He had my tonearm for two months before he talked me into getting an rca box instead. Bottom line is that he is hesitant to prov...
2 turntables and one phono stage - Can I???
Why don't you call Joule Electra and ask if they can add a second input? I know they offer this feature for the OPS-2 for a very modest cost. I imagine they could do it for the OPS-1 too.
Cary SLP98 phono
The phono stage is excellent. I was able to compare it directly it to two "Class A" phono stages and preferred the Cary. I had both the MC and MM versions, paired with the V12R amplifier. Both were very quiet, with background noise practically ind...
Preamp Deal of the Century
I had my Cortese for sale and just cancelled the ad. I can't bring myself to give it up. I really enjoy the dynamics and transparency of the Cortese. My Audio Aero Capitole AI, which I had connected directly to my amp, sounded smeared without the ...
Typical upgrade path from VPI?
VPI's do not lack mid-bass, IME. I used to have an Aries 2 for about 3 years in my system and really liked it. I ran it with the JMW 9 and later an SME IV, both tonearms set up with a Benz Micro Reference cartridge. Mid-bass was quite tuneful and ...
Preamp Deal of the Century
I am sorry to hear about Supratek's demise. I have lurked on this thread for awhile, but have not checked in for a month or so. What a surprise.I own a Cortese, which I bought new from Mick a year and a half ago. The Cortese is very special to me....
Synergistic Research's Tricon Phono Cable
I tried, and now own, the Tricon Analogue. The Tricon is a relatively unknown gem, IMO. I did not compare it to cables in the same price league that you have tried, but I did like the Tricon better than cables from Hovland, Cardas, and Graham (thi...
Quad Active Speakers 11l and 12l history/future
Thanks for the post. I have been thinking that the 12L actives would be ideal to hook up to my pre/pro's second zone output. I have been looking at active speakers because I wouldn't have to have a separate amp. The 12L's seem ideal: The price is ...
Jeffs Sound Values in CA. PH not working/closed?
Sad news indeed. They were my favorite local dealer. I was always treated well there. I wish Jeff and crew all the best.
Transrotor Fat Bob S vs. VPI Aries 3
They are 2 very different sounding rigs. I extensively auditioned the Fat Bob S and owned an Aries 2 for 3 years before getting a great deal on a Kuzma Stabi Reference TT. The Fat Bob is on the neutral side and the VPI is on the warm side. The Ari...
Anybody fan or Meridian 3 ch stereo?
I have read on a Meridian board that the 568 is very close to the 861 in audio quality. Here is a link to the board: http://www.meridianunplugged.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi.FWIW, I wholeheartedly endorse the Meridian 568 pre/pro. I have a 568.2mm ...
night stand / audio component also
Ethan Allen makes fine quality furniture that might work for you. Here is one that is made of maple and "other hardwoods" that is 28 inches tall (they have other models that may be of interest if 28 inches is too tall): http://www.ethanallen.com/e...
What's your speaker IQ, and the best speaker?
Merlin VSM-MXe's. Bobby's newest iteration of this magnificent speaker model. I just got these. Hands down, the best speakers that I have owned. The sound is very holographic and dynamic, yet quite natural, which creates a startling real soundscap...
Hagerman "Blue Cornet"
I used a blue Cornet for a while with a Cary SLI-80. It was my first separate phono stage. The Cornet was a vast improvement over a NAD phono stage that I was using. It was also much better than the phono stage that was built into my previous inte...
