What's the best Phono preamp under $1000?? I'm with Dcroft, the Graham Slee Era Gold V. Detail, warmth, soundstage, depth, easy to listen to. I am using a MMF-7 with the standard tonearm and Eroica cartridge. It is all about the synergy of turntable-tonearm-cartridge-cable-phono stage. Wow...
Oppo as transport I have discussed this very question with several Audiogon members in private messages recently. My experience was the comparison between a modified Jolida 100A, stock Oppo 980 through a PS Audio Digital Link III, and the Jolida through the DL III....
Polarized C7 dvd cords I had trouble with the PS Audio. It wouldn't stay in the receptacle and kept falling out. I was told on the phone by a representative at PSA that that's just the way it is and blamed it on the DVD female end, despite the fact that it was the same ...
Hum.....?? Sometimes shielding is not the issue. I had a pair of Audioquest cables between the pre-pro RCA out and my HT input on the pre-amp and had a devil of a time figuring out that they were not properly grounded and the source of my hum. I changed cabl...
Speltz Anti Cable Speaker Cable All this proves that every system is different. A recent article, I think it was in Stereophile, examined amplifiers and their changes under different loads at different frequencies. Each amplifier has varying characteristics at different outputs ...
Cable elevators - conventional wisdom wrong? Musicnoise, Thank you! Very entertaining, and very much to the point.
Speltz Anti Cable Speaker Cable Yes, with my Von Schweikert VR-4JRs. These speakers benefit from bi-wires, where others may not. The dynamics were improved.
Anyone going Phantom Center Channel? My response is to only use a center channel for dialogue heavy movies, and SACD. I elevate the center channel on another stand for multi-channel music, it is matched with the front speakers and it is important to precisely match the levels and hei...
A contrarian's view of inductance in SCs Not heresy at all! I do believe that there is a theoretical advantage of separate ribbon wires, vs solid core wires. I have not heard them side by side. I still believe that solid copper wire is good, especially considering that there are terminal...
A contrarian's view of inductance in SCs I can't speak to whether or not the anti-cables are diminished , because I don't perceive that in my system. Because most all other wires are in close proximity to each other, wouldn't most speaker wires be perceived as exciting the HF? Could it b...
A contrarian's view of inductance in SCs I understand little about the electrical properties of wire. These wires are difficult to make contact throughout their entire length. It is easiest when they are new. It seems even their close proximity to each other makes a difference in sound. ...
A contrarian's view of inductance in SCs I twisted the positive and the negative together, approximately 4 twists per foot.
A contrarian's view of inductance in SCs I have only a small example. I have run my Speltz anti-cable speaker wires both separated and twisted. There is an audible difference, subtle but unmistakeable. In my rig and in my room I preferred the twisted for the upper frequency module and se...
Tube Integrated with deep bass I like Jolida, but also have to put in a plug here for room tuning and speaker placement. You can do a lot with the speaker placement to fine tune bass, irrespective of the amp. This assumes you can change the room around. Good luck!
What happened to the AM/FM tuner??? I recommend internet radio if you wish to stream to your system. A bit complex, but lots of choices for music and information. I like having XM radio available. Monthly subscription, but very few commercials and lots of choices for music. I also h... |
