Mirage Omni 350 omnipolar
I grabbed a pair of the 550s from Vann's to replace my Ohm Walsh 2's which I'll find a new home for. I'm also considering the OMD-28s if the 550s impress me enough. A good friend (earlier poster in this thread) just ordered the 28s so will have to...
Mirage OMD-28?
I currently own the Mirage M3si and have owned the M1si in the past. I've listened to the subsequent Mirage lines and have always felt they took a step backward in support of more WAF friendly designs. I think the M Series are the best Mirage ever...
Ohm FRS-15 v. Ohm Walsh 2
I've owned the Ohm Walsh 2s, 4s, and 5s, and to be honest I prefer the 2's over all of them. I just sold my new model 5's S3's and kept my 2s. They just sound 'right' and can be had often for very little (I think I paid $200 for mine) whereas the ...
Vintage tube guys
I have a completely upgraded Scott 299B (rebuilt by Craig at NOSValves) and it sounds as good as anything I've heard, especially on horn speakers. I also have a pair of Quicksilver Horn Monos which are also awesome. I don't look at old vs. new, ju...
Adding a Subwoofer to Khorns
Try a small, but powerful (built in 1500 watt amp) , sub like the Sunfire True Sub Jr. Very small, but very fast and deep bass. Just my two cents...
Vandersteen 3A Signature in a small room?
Hey, personally I like the sound of (most) big speakers in a small room as it gives you a huge sense of scale (I have a pair of Khorns in a small room and all my audiophile friends can attest they sound incredible, even at very low volumes). Now, ...
The best "imaging" speakers?
If you would have asked me 6 months ago, I might have offered either the Gallo Reference 3s or Dunlavy SC-IVs that I owned. However, the Digital Phase AP-4s (little known brand made in Tennessee) outdid them both in terms of imaging so I would rat...
Vandersteen 1B versus 1C?
I just recently owned both models (and subsequently sold both models as well). Having said that, I think I enjoyed the 1B's a bit more than the 1Cs. Depends on the type of sound you like best. The 1Cs might be a bit more detailed, but the 1Bs (to ...
Which speaker is the master of IMAGING ????
Of all I've owned or listened to, the Spica Angelus were the best. In fact I just sold mine, sad to say...but have a pair of Dunlavy SC-IVs to replace them with, which offer most of the imaging the Angelus had (not all) but also of course add a lo...
good speaker with Sound stage behind????
I hate jumping on bandwagons but from what you are describing, the Vandy's are the perfect fit. Depending on the size of your room the Model 1s, 2s, or 3s would fit the bill.
Obscure companies making excellent speakers?
Digital Phase is definitely an obscure company making EXCELLENT speakers. They have been making speakers with their proprietary 'acousta-reed' technology for over 20 years in Chattanooga, TN. Their response curve on all their speakers are ruler fl...
LEGACY FANS ?
I know they were originally voiced with Coda amps and that is what they used at various trade shows. I imagine they would be a good match although that is not what I used when I owned a pair of them.
What is your favorite type of tweeter?
My favorite tweeters are the Gallo CDT, the Digital Phase Titanium Dome and the various kapton ribbon tweeters out there.
Next up... new speakers...
Digital Phase AP-4s which were clearly superior to my Gallo Ref 3.1s, Martin Logans, Vandies, Maggies, Legacy's (all previously owned) and equal to or slightly better than my also current Dunlavy SC-IVs. A speaker you would have to hear to believe...
Personal speaker evolution
I've listened to a lot more than I've owned and there are still a few out there I want to try someday (KEF 107.2, KEF 104.2, Ohm Walsh 5, etc). Couldn't afford them when they came out. Thats the great thing about pre-owned gear; one can finally af...
