Modding the PS Audio Directstream DAC MK1 and MK2
And may I ask, do we have any schematic info on the Mk2? Output section in particular? Thanks, TK
Modding the PS Audio Directstream DAC MK1 and MK2
Speaking of heat sink heat, I had to replace the transformer in a Mk1 this past week. But the original is a custom unit rated 8v secondaries, 2 x 25VA and not available. I chose an off the shelf 6V rated out 2 x 25VA unit and tg it's working fine,...

I would also remind to avoid double upsampling in your digital chain and be aware of whatโ€™s happening. In other words, if the source is upsampling already for example then NOS mode is likely more appropriate for the DAC. And vice versa. Also, to ...
CD TRANSPORT THAT MAKES AN AUDIBLE DIFFERENCE
And don't get me started, but 4x should have been the fundamental lowest sampling freq of CD and all digital audio. 44K/48K is the root of most digital evil actually.. However there were sound reasons why even 44K was a stretch back in the early ...
CD TRANSPORT THAT MAKES AN AUDIBLE DIFFERENCE
Yes, just be sure not to double upsample. For example, make sure your DAC isn't also upsampling. But 4x to an NOS DAC is a great method IME. The CDT2 also upsamples, easy to engage via the remote. TK
CD TRANSPORT THAT MAKES AN AUDIBLE DIFFERENCE
The Jay's CDT2 is great, but the CDT3 is proving to be one of the best sources available at any price, actually. Hard to believe with Redbook CD but it's true. I think it must be the CLK system mostly, which occupies the whole right third of the u...
Whole reference system was stolen, now need new speakers on a low budget. Concept 50?
Hi jof, I have a a super nice pair of Concept 500 available in black/rosenut finish. These are my own personal speakers. I sent you a PM. TK
Do speaker cables really make a difference ?
Amen, Todd7.. We Todd's think alike ;) lol
Do speaker cables really make a difference ?
They (and other cables) make a huge difference. Forget the "science"; what matters is, can you hear it or not. If you can, it's important. If you can't, it's not important. It's been my experience in some 15+ years of hardcore effort electronics ...
New Jays Audio flagship cd transport
Thank you so much for the very kind words Robert, Jack, a1uc, .. And lately I've been using a CDT3 at my place as well.. For now I've been feeding AES to a Gaia -> RJ45 I2S to a Termi Plus (and I2S or SPDIF to a couple of other very high resol...
New Jays Audio flagship cd transport
Well.. Other than the fact that it's a true all-out engineering effort to make the best CDT possible, has an array of outputs including I2S via HDMI and RJ45, sounds fantastic and is built like a tank to extreme high quality.. No reason I suppose ...

Yes, CDT2 Mk3 has it. And yes, have used it :) The "program" button (if I recall correctly) will switch it to 4x. You'll see the display change accordingly. I would only use it with an NOS DAC downstream though. TK

Upsampling can be a deep topic for sure. One problem with NOS at 44K1/48K frequencies is, the waveform starts to look bad as we go up in frequency. Really bad in fact by 20KHz for example as there are only 2.x sample points available per cycle at ...

I've often used upsampling with the CDT2 feeding an NOS DAC downstream. Seems what we probably should avoid is though, upsampling in the CDT followed by upsampling again in the DAC.
