Speaker Cables : Moderate priced
Take a look please at the Audience AU24SX, great sounding cables, priced reasonably.  https://www.tekaudiospecialties.com/audience TK
Why do I prefer R2R over Chip based DAC's?
Much of what goes wrong in a DAC occurs after the DAC portion itself. For example, a datasheet implementation of an industrial op amp I/V/LPF/buffer. The DAC will never achieve better than that limitation. Industrial OA are relatively easy to use ...
Passive preamps - differences between technologies
Yes, the Hattor passive with discrete shunt attenuator is quite good. I have/had 2 of them, the pure passive and the dual mono buffered. The buffered version requires some discrete OA rolling to get the best results (of course). Industrial OA just...
Modding the PS Audio Directstream DAC MK1 and MK2
Some other news, this summer I was able to get Tom C of Neurochrome Audio to do a special version of his Modulus "error correcting" amp boards (thanks Tom!). Notably, we eliminated the OA input buffer, and the input coupling cap (and feedback cap!...
Modding the PS Audio Directstream DAC MK1 and MK2
Hello folks, still here occasionally :) Thought I'd share some things. The Vocm mod with JK high nickel trafos is quite good and would likely satisfy the majority of listeners IMO. I will say though, the pinnacle of DS DAC mk1 sonic performance ...
Jay's Audio CD Transport Repair
Yes, by power cycle I mean an AC power off/ back on event; the intent is to reset any logic that may have strayed off into the weeds. Sometimes a power brown out can upset control logic, for example. Jaymark is discussing with us now privately. We...
Jay's Audio CD Transport Repair
Hello Jaymark. Do you have a CDT2 mk2 or mk3? Or a CDT3? Did you check that the laser lens is not obstructed by debris perhaps? Try a power cycle? TK
New Jays Audio flagship cd transport
Thyname, thank you for the kind words. And I agree, actually the CDT3 is proving to be one of the best sounding sources available at any price. Kind of hard to comprehend, especially for a Redbook format, but true story. Mojo Audio uses a CDT3 to...
Linn LP12 Cirkus baring
Hello KOF. I have a new Tiger Paw Akula subchassis with a new Linn armboard on it for sale for very reasonable, if interested. I've had a "full blown" LP12 project for many years with all the upgrades; machined subchassis, thicker top plate, DC m...
Modding the PS Audio Directstream DAC MK1 and MK2
And may I ask, do we have any schematic info on the Mk2? Output section in particular? Thanks, TK
Modding the PS Audio Directstream DAC MK1 and MK2
Speaking of heat sink heat, I had to replace the transformer in a Mk1 this past week. But the original is a custom unit rated 8v secondaries, 2 x 25VA and not available. I chose an off the shelf 6V rated out 2 x 25VA unit and tg it's working fine,...
Denafrips FPGA Firmware Update
I would also remind to avoid double upsampling in your digital chain and be aware of what’s happening. In other words, if the source is upsampling already for example then NOS mode is likely more appropriate for the DAC. And vice versa. Also, to ...
CD TRANSPORT THAT MAKES AN AUDIBLE DIFFERENCE
And don't get me started, but 4x should have been the fundamental lowest sampling freq of CD and all digital audio. 44K/48K is the root of most digital evil actually.. However there were sound reasons why even 44K was a stretch back in the early ...
CD TRANSPORT THAT MAKES AN AUDIBLE DIFFERENCE
Yes, just be sure not to double upsample. For example, make sure your DAC isn't also upsampling. But 4x to an NOS DAC is a great method IME. The CDT2 also upsamples, easy to engage via the remote. TK
CD TRANSPORT THAT MAKES AN AUDIBLE DIFFERENCE
The Jay's CDT2 is great, but the CDT3 is proving to be one of the best sources available at any price, actually. Hard to believe with Redbook CD but it's true. I think it must be the CLK system mostly, which occupies the whole right third of the u...
