How many with analog rigs only?
99% vinyl. I have a lot of fun with it.
Is a vinyl rig only worth it for oldies?
For me the answer is no. My TT rig is clearly better than CD even with some ticks and pops and other issues. Vinyl playback has issues for sure. But as has ben said, learn how to clean. It goes a long way.CD is limited by 44.1K HZ 16 bit. It is an...
Who listens only to vinyl?
My CD player can go months at a time with out use. My vinyl rig is much better sounding. That makes it worth the extra effort.TD
experience of audio research phono ref2 se
Dctom, I have the original Ref 2 phono but have not heard any SE versions. I plan on upgrading my Ref2 and Ref5 line stage this fall. There is a thread regarding the SE version of the Ref 5 on Amps/Preamps board.TD
setting up vandersteen 5a
JohnnyR, yes I did check level side to side. I could tell that was the "level" that Stringreen was talking about. The left speaker was perfect but the right speaker was slightly off. The adjustments I made were small and nothing jumped out to me o...
setting up vandersteen 5a
Stringreen, thanks for the 5A set up information. I double checked using a lazer and indeed I was able to make some minor adjustments to make sure each speaker had the same tilt front to back. Good inforation there.
Headshell Washers : Nylon or Stainless Steel?
Where can you find nonmagnetic stainless steel washers?
What makes a tuntable sounds warmer?
I would experiment with different ranges of VTF and VTA. What sounded dialed-in on the old TT may be different than what is needed on the new TT. I realize that might seem odd but what do you have to lose.On my system I can create what you describ...
Balanced XLR to RCA Adapters: Good or Bad?
Al, good point. I have an ohm meeter and I should be able to test that in the next day or two.Thinking about it an adapter should have a tiny effect.Just before the Triplanar here is what I had. A VPI Aries 2 with JWM 10.5 with the standard RCA ou...
Balanced XLR to RCA Adapters: Good or Bad?
Franz456, my one experience with adapters is negative. In my case I just purchased a Triplanar VII arm terminated with RCAs and I had an Ayre P-5X which is a true balanced phono preamp (Cart was/is a ZYX Universe X .24mv). I had been using an XLR ...
Tweaks such as demagnetizers ionizers for lp's
Anyone try an old TV Degausser? Any idea how strong one of those might be vs a bulk tape eraser? Thanks Terry
Einstein TTC phono - Making Loading Plugs Help
I run 100 or 200 ohms with my cart. There is slight but distinct difference but both work fine. If I drop down to 50 the life is gone. At some point a cartdrige is just loaded down too much. Its not the same but its kinda like having too much VTF.
Einstein TTC phono - Making Loading Plugs Help
I had the balanced Einstein and made a couple loading plugs. IIRC the balanced unit had an imput impedence of 940 ohms (or something close to that) with no loading plugs inserted. The number was found in the owners manual. I calculated the resisto...
Bandwidth question?
Al nailed it IMO. I can't think of any amp I have considered that had me worry about bandwidth.
Cartridge recommendations for TW Acustic 10.5 arm.
I've been using a ZYX Universe X for a couple years. I also have a Triplanar with a second Universe which I took off the table about a year ago. I like using the 10.5 more than the triplanar except for the the lack of an arm lock at the rest posit...
