Is the Oppo-105 with Modwright modifications
I no longer have need for a cd player, but I did finally have the opportunity to compare the Modwright versus the Exemplar moded Oppo 105s. I thought my Exemplar eXpo 105 was clearly more dynamic and detailed.
Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD
Lissnr, while I'm not really excited by the Lampizator or for that matter tubes in audio, I have always been at a loss to understand why anyone would argue why X is better than Y verbally. This thread is a perfect useless endeavor by a very sincer...

Chris_launder, I have always used Rightway Audio Isolators, which are no longer available. They are ceramic with a brown glaze and look much like what you used to see on low voltage power lines. One can rest cables in the groove. I have tried card...

Going back to the main purpose of this thread, I have set up a small system in New Mexico and could bring only part of my Texas system. I brought my new music server, four pieces of HFC gear, including 2 pair of 1 m. Ultimate Reference ics, one se...
Are music servers the future?
Bo1972, are they both 192/24 PCM?
Review Stillpoints Ultra Mini
This pertains to the Ultra SSs, but I thought it might be of interest. In '09, I took a pair of LSA1 Statements to my home in New Mexico with some nice stands and six OEM Stillpoints feet for between them and the stands. I never was told that they ...

Calvinj, thanks. I really pay little attention to these people. I used to be a college professor and we had student evaluations. I had mainly favorable but once in a while I would get, "I would have learned more if the professor had been more ente...

Judyazblues, I was already getting industry accommodation pricing before I agreed to reviewing. Is that the dirty side of audio and everything else? You are wrong, however, about accommodation pricing. Generally, it is 50% off but sometimes it is ...

Chris_launder, while I agree with Ddraudt that every step in the HFC cabling has been a big improvement, I still vividly remember putting the first 1.5m CT-1 original and being in utter amazement at the top end and speed. Nothing had ever rivaled ...
Are music servers the future?
Mapman, this guy is a pro-audio guy, but is moving toward an audiophile level music server. Mine presently is about the size of a Mac Mini, but has oppamps and inexpensive clocks. Soon I will get the four outboard linear power supplies, quite accu...
Stillpoints and reference-level speakers
Theaudiotweak, I haven't looked but is there a table of speed propagations through different materials? And what does one seek-faster or slower? Also is it frequency dependent? I had a good deal of engineering training in undergraduate school but ...

Chris_launder, apocryphal or not, this is much like my experiences with the HFC gear. It is really something when one has a $1790 dac with $6900 ics and a $13,575 pc and loving it.I am at my small home in the mountains of New Mexico with $2200 spe...
Stillpoints and reference-level speakers
Audiolabyrinth, I have noticed the same thing as Grannyring. As I understand it, the Audio Points flatten somewhat and adjust to the load and the steel platform also adjusts to the load. It really doesn't matter as what he says is true. The speed ...
Are music servers the future?
Mapman, I have moved up.
Are music servers the future?
Mapman, yes but none are high definition, at least not in the 192/24 PCM format or DSD native or above.I'm not saying that this might not be convenient, just not approaching vinyl realism or better.
