When does analog compete with digital?
Drewmb1? You have a gimbaled TT in your car? I would love a gimbaled TT. Just for the sake of it. I guess the right way to do it is have a gimbaled platform and mount a TT on it...
When does analog compete with digital?
Syntax,You need a PS-X9 with the remote. I finally found one for mine.
Why not horns?
Johnk,How would you do the "Add fostex t900a tweeters a few parts adds about $1100 more" integration into the M19s? Would you replace the uppermid drivers with something else (as was suggested on a long thread over at Lansing Heritage a year or tw...
What is the Phono stage you have finished with?
Sebastian, does that mean the ear 324 is the one you've settled on?Recently, I have been using the phono stage in the Pioneer C-Z1 preamp from 30yrs ago. Very very quiet.
Amps suitable to run Martin Logan SL3's
I used VTL 450 mono blocks. I tried the Counterpoint Natural Progression Monoblocks and they were wonderful. The Innersound ESL amp worked very well. I expect the Audio Research VT 100 or something similar might work. The thing you need to watch o...
turntable recommendations for a vinyl newbie...
Chayro,I am not advocating doing nothing. I am simply trying to point out the nature of the "costs." Based on the fact that the OP has a friend who will set up the TT, and he has demonstrable sensitivity to having too much potential loss if it tur...
turntable recommendations for a vinyl newbie...
The "cost" of trying vinyl is not in the friction of buying hardware used for $1000 on Agon and then reselling it for a few dollars less after having spent a few or several months learning about setup, figuring out that your first choice of cartri...

Vintage Phono Stage? pros and cons
Musichead,You are right. If you know your history, you can get a killer phono stage for not huge money. I find the best ones are embedded in top-notch preamps from the late 1970s. I have one I will be hooking up again tonight. It is a joy.Vintage ...
Why not horns?
I see Oris150 horns with bass cab sets on Audiogon every now and then for $3-4k. I expect those could hang pretty well with the best as long as the drivers are good ones, and the crossover point is done well.
Which cost more: your system or your car?
Peterayer,I hope that is "commensurate" rather than 'commiserate', but it is an appropriate comment. Some might take issue with the order of 1 and 2 though... (and some might then take issue with a new #2 and 3 but understanding priorities is impo...
Which cost more: your system or your car?
System, but my car sounds terrible. The stereo system in the car sounds pretty bad too. Chopss,I am a tubes & vinyl guy but I have the cheap Pioneer equalized system which came with the car. That said, putting in a better system in a 2000 dies...
To all tube lovers.......
Possibly because some of us are not so wedded to the format as to the quality of implementation...
To all tube lovers.......
Pioneer Z1 series. The monoblocks are only 60W though.
power chord question
If you want forward-sounding power chords, I would try Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. They used power chords quite heavily, and to great effect.Half facetiously noted only because it was asked that way, and it has been asked many times before and ...
