Phono amp question
If you want to build a kit, consider the Hagermans.
Denon 2910 vs Denon 3910
If you have another $1K, I would consider the Underwood/Parts Connexion mods to the 2910 and also use the $ you will save by not needing another set of quality i/cs.
Problems with Revel B15 Sub
I agree with Arni.
Conservative Politics & Rock Music
These are also the folks that called the Beatles and others "long haired communist hippie drug anarchists" or something like that.Actually, it was "long-haired commie pinko fags". I speak from experience being an ex-lhcpf. And I agree, the Nationa...
Choosing proper gain for preamp. Am I screwed?
Just one quick thought- too much gain with a pre, unless it has VERY fine steps/taper, will be a real problem. Most attenuators/volume pots are very non-linear at the beginning of their travel. The l & r channels will tend not to track well. P...
Anyone noticed HT better with DVR?
Michael- Are you sure that the Comcast box does not output DD? Every Comcast digital box that I had, did. Perhaps the broadcast you are watching is not in DD. Anyways, they will probably upgrade the firmware eventualy, even if yours does not suppo...
Bybee Ultimate Speaker Filters...need info..
Maybe its just a language issue. Binding post on each (Bybee). Mine had a spade on one end and a binding post on the other.
Anyone noticed HT better with DVR?
Did your old box output Dolby Digital? The DVR boxes do. Plus the dacs in your HTR are going to be head and shoulders above the DAC in the cable box.
What new amp for my Merlins
If you have $20K, then I would strongly suggest you upgrade the speakers to current MM status with SuperBAM. Significant improvement in the BAM alone. Then you would still have plenty left over for Joule or Berning or (My current favorite, but its...
What new amp for my Merlins
Give us more parameters- cost, pre-amp, music types, tube or SS, etc.
Converting XLR to Single Ended for inputs
Hi John- I would think that satellite is a no-brainer given relatively low fi audio quality. Then I would go along in order of decreasing frequency of use. Of course, you could also use RCA-XLR cables. There are several manufacturers who will term...
CD Mats
I have never heard a mat, but I would bet that none of them are designed to work with changers.
New 11' x 7' listening room....small speaker?
At $2k used, I would put Merlin TSMs on the list but consult with Bobby @ Merlin to see if the room is big enough and if your electronics would mate well with his speaker. He will give you an honest answer.
Amps directly into wall w/Hubbell on off switch?
Don't know much about anything else, but if you have ever seen the resuts of a lightening strike, that gap at the switch will mean nothing.
Budget Preamps for Atmaspheres?
Jeffrey- I would caution you on the Atmas running single-ended. I had a buzz I could not get rid of (Ralph calls for a shorting pin in the XLRs if you run single-ended, but it was not a complete solution for me), but more importantly, they sound b...
