What is the most challenging music to play on a stereo?
Metallica’s Hardwired... to Self-Destruct album is like a tester for any system ability, you can check almost everything including very important index of dynamic range, however this Album-tester is not for tube based amps, very few of them could ...
Adding a Dac and Stresmer
Pontus is great sounding DAC with lots of flexibility and potential. For streamer I would suggest to look towards units with separate linear power supply. I think your price range will allow it.
Forced to DIY
My smallest DIY audio projects was replacing transformer in my vintage Marantz tuner couple years ago and 30 years ago I installed better stereo with acoustic in my car. The biggest home project was trimming 60ft tall trees at my backyard. I bough...
un-becoming an audiophile
Nonsense, you don’t need any psychological or scientific help for your problem, probably philosophical approach would help. Audio itself implies feature of Quality, so you can’t separate that feature while you consuming audio information. Yes, I c...
How do you find time to enjoy your $$$ speakers and system?
Time is always limited. I have three different systems in my house. One main system, two secondary and high res earphones setup. Of course, main system has no alternative in SQ, but I love music at the first place and I can listen on any of my sys...
STREAMER
Honestly I didn’t hear any difference between $850 Cardas power cable and $350 Cardas power cable on my Lumin D2, but I was using those cables with Sbooster power supply. Probably, using them with onboard PS will make some audible difference.
Spikes on tower speakers
Heavy and stable base is needed for speakers placement. Go to granite cutting shop near you and custom order a couple granite plates. Avoid fancy expensive city stores cause it will cost you a lot, find some granite wear house outside the city lin...
Quicksilver v4 monos vs CODA Continuum No. 8 Version 1.
I owned 2 of these Duo XD amps before and liked them more than the #8. I’m pretty sure that Krell Duo 300XD is good sounding amp, but unfortunately I have some bias for vent cooling concept. Probably sounds paranoid, but the idea of some moving...
Quicksilver v4 monos vs CODA Continuum No. 8 Version 1.
I prefer topics like this were never started. There are about one hundred variables before and after the amp & speaker interface. Every system and listener is unique. I  was talking about one aspect of the topic in this case which is “op...
Quicksilver v4 monos vs CODA Continuum No. 8 Version 1.
If that’s the case why are you asking about Quicksilver tube amps? And for that matter Coda class A amps Version 1 of CODA Continuum No. 8 is not class A amp. It shouldn’t run hot. Does QS v4 runs hot ?  Probably, in general for living room tub...
Quicksilver v4 monos vs CODA Continuum No. 8 Version 1.
BTW, A true class A amp does not switch to class A/B! If you want a true class A amp you should be a lookin’ at First Watt or Pass amps! Yes, I’m aware of this fact, but I’m afraid that pure Class A is not the case for this particular situation...
Quicksilver v4 monos vs CODA Continuum No. 8 Version 1.
You need to listen to both to decide which you prefer. That's all that matters. Either should be able to power most speakers. Let’s stay under the topic. It’s not about my preference. I was asking about yours, if you have any.
Previous Ownership...does it matter to you?
Yes, it matters, cause one owner could not even use the equipment at all and another could done lots of different things to their equipment including good or bad modifications like recap, rewiring, PS change etc.
Sound quality of new vinyl recordings.
Make your research every time you buying new album. Lots of modern LPs recorded from digital masters and honest labels don’t hide this fact marking their albums with corresponding sign on the album sleeve, however some are try to scam saying nothi...
A public service announcement
Yah, booze could lead to expensive mistakes sometimes. Once after third glass of scotch I double payed all my monthly utilities, credit cards statements and mortgage payment using online banking. Now I have the rule: Never sign in to online bankin...
