What Patty Smith album to own?
I'll go with Horses and Easter, in that order as albums, but Trampin has some very good cuts. You would want to avoid the pouueetry/spoken word junk on her albums, in my opinion. Some albums have more of it than others....
Should we have an Audiophiles Anonymous
Will libations be served at Audiophiles Anonymous? Even the hardcore get sick of caffeine and nicotine after a few thousand qualifications....
Review: Behringer DEQ2496 Equalizer
Just to clarify, I am less interested in full range eq than I am in bass eq as a given, so I am more wary of putting anything like that in an analog system unless its restricted to the low end.The problem with quoting specs and asking about noise ...
Mapleshade records: Pick the best of
I don't think they have good CDs in terms of the music, although most albums have a few good cuts. Their straightahead blues and jazz strike me as the best picks. They have a fairly extensive set of samples for downloading. On the whole, I prefer s...
Review: Behringer DEQ2496 Equalizer
The common scuttlebutt is that this product is for woofers only, to keep it out of the main signal path. Are you using the product full range?I agree it looks a bit forbidding at first, and I've seen the unofficial help websites, as well as Newfor...
Speakers for vocalists
They're not vocal cords so much as vocal folds. Like a Heil. ; )
gallo ref3 with the golden ear awards?
Apparently, yes. See the Vandie sub, which is down firing. (Actually slot loaded.) They are still crossed over at 6 db per octave and you'd want them in the same acoustic plane as the speakers. You can search out reviews for Vandersteen and Thiel a...
'great' bookshelf speakers for under 500?
If you're talking about buying new, the KEF Q1 stand mounts would offer a smooth and somewhat warm sound, which is what you want in a budget speaker (to protect your ears from any fatigue associated with budget tradeoffs.)
Dead Can Dance's Into the Labyrinth
For a medieval, acoustic antecedent you could check for online store samples of eponymous "Acantus." It's been awhile since I've listened to that one, but it makes for an interesting reference point.
Fedex or UPS?
Ricin or anthrax?
Eminent Technology LFT-VIIIa
Agreed on the connection you write about, but even though we seem to essentially agree on the character of the speaker I just seem to like it a bit better than you.
Eminent Technology LFT-VIIIa
I agree with the substance of Plato's remarks about the VIIIa's, but maybe don't downgrade them as much. He says they lack immediacy and detail; I ask compared to what? It seemed true for me that the VIIIa's rolled off at the high end, and so were...

There are reviews here and at audioasylum. Even the nitpickers have good things to say about them. One of the principals at audioadvisor used to own, sell and like them a lot. Maybe you could just phone up and ask if he's still there and willing t...
Speaker choices, $1000-2000 Smooth & Musical
>I am interested in full range or near full range sound that is smooth and musical. I am not interested in anything overly analytical but would like a certain measure of transparency and detail.Paradigms are not that smooth. Not to a person who...
Is the Rives Audio Parc an audiophile component
Just in case it wasn't clear, I said most audiophiles use the Behringer on the sub only, i.e., it ruins the sound when used full range.
