Compare and Contrast
Since CJ now owns McCormack, they will be happy either way!!
Skipping CD's
Yes, the laser can become out of alignment and not perform as well. In many ways like a poorly aligned turntable cartridge. It can also go bad, but so does everything else.In some ways I guess we might be somewhat guilty of having a plug and play m...
Operas... Any fans?
Probably every opera that is regularly performed around the world is worth a listen. Don't forget that Porgy and Bess is an opera as well. For modern stuff, I've always had a liking for John Adam's "Nixon in China".
Operas... Any fans?
From my experience, the majority of true opera fans are going to care most (and probably only) about the quality of the singing. The quality of the recording will be secondary, and for some, not a consideration at all.
Do we break in our componets or do our componets ?
It is a little of both. I have multiple systems at my disposal, so I doubt that I could get use to listening to one system that was sonically painfull to listen to.But then a couple of them have similar brand components; just a matter of level; su...
Tube Discussion Microphonics?
If the tube is only slightly microphonic when you tap on it, then what is the problem? I agree 100% that a tube that is microphonic in normal use is a piece of junk. Folks including Kevin Deal at Upscale Audio, who sells some of the best NOS tubes...
Tube Discussion Microphonics?
A little microphonics can be a good thing. Older vintage tubes are more likely to be a little microphonic. But these are also the ones audiophiles will pay a premium for. Is there a connection?A little microphonics can add some "air" to the sound,...
Clean Power
Question...Some say Romex is directional, but never say which direction it should go. Does anyone have any input?
Using a receiver as a phono stage
What Twl sais will work. My question is whether you want to keep the NAD for some reason? You could sell it and with the proceeds get a much better separate phono preamp that is worthy of the Jolida
Mixing and Matching Cable Brands: Bad Idea??
As Duke Ellington said...."If it sounds good, it is good".Same "Brand" probably does not matter. Most brands make many "Models" that have nothing in common with each other. Only the company name on the jacket is the same.I assume your gear (Preamp...
Live at Carnegie Hall
I typed Carnegie Hall as a search word at the Tower Records website, and got 408 titles. Is that enough? Some are probably duplicate.
What's the best preamp for under 1000
For an active preamp, the original 6SN7 based Blue Circle BC-21.There is also the earlier CJ version; the CJ PV-10A, which is similar to the new B model. There is a plain PV-10, from 1989-1992 which was my first tube preamp. It uses different tube...
Hum with surge protector
Transformer hum or.......a hum in the speakers (ground loop)? If a ground loop hum, then try removing the AC ground on the amp with a cheater plug.
Blue Circle BC22 MKII vs. McCormack DNA-125
Tough question. It is really a matter of taste. I am a big fan of Blue Circle gear. That said however, there is nothing wrong with McCormick also.BC gear simply sounds right to me (real sounding). I am solidly in the "music lover" catagory; more t...
Reverse biwire speaker cables?
If you have bi-wire cables and non-biwire speakers, just put both + wires together (and minus) on the single speaker terminal. Then run a jumper.Your speakers were probably designed for two separate pairs of speaker cables, instead of an internal ...
