Ethics of last minute auction "poaching"
If you go to UBid.com you will see that to place a "proxy" bid you have to use their "Bid Butler". If you do not use the Bid Butler, then if you bid $500 on an item that is at $50, the current bid jumps all the way to $500, just like a live auctio...
Ethics of last minute auction "poaching"
Megasam: Your winning bid was at the last minute. You place a proxy bid. You delegated authority to Audiogon to "Re-bid" for you if someone place a bid higher than your current bid. If you let's say, bid $500 on an item that was currently at $49, ...
I give up on HT
What you can do is run the main two front speaker directly from the PFR preamp through the amp, to preserve the high end sound you desire; and run the other channels through the HT decoder for movies. This will mean using a separate amp to power t...
Replacing Rel Sub Cable
If you have not already done so; also upgrade the stock power cord that comes with the REL. The improvement was instantly noticeable on my REL when I upgraded the power cord.
1 sub? 2 subs?
Depends on your budget. If you don't have much to spend, one great sub will be better then two cheap subs.
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
I listen to the best possible sound all the time. Better than SACD, DVD-A, you name it. It is call live music.
"Forward" sounding ICs and Cables?
Nordost Blue Heaven is on the forward side.
Best value for the buck speaker cables
To get the complete list of MIT cables at Audioadvisor.com; go to the web site; type in "terminator" in the search box; then pick any listing; at the bottom of the listing there will be a link that sais something like "show all products by MIT"; i...
How do you ship heavy oversized speakers
I used a private freight company before for something heavy. The cost was worth it. Look in the yellow pages. Door to door service.
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
Since the general public is buying DVD players by the millions, DVD-A has a large potential market which gives it an edge. This is why Windows won. IBM chose Microsoft DOS as its operating system. No company purchasing manager was ever fired for b...
Best value for the buck speaker cables
AudioAdvisor.com has a lot of the 1999 MIT Terminator and MH series speaker cables. Brand new on close out for less than half price list. Take you pick depending on your budget.
Break-in proceedure Scd777ES???
Playing a CD helps in my experience, but be careful about puting a CD on repeat for 400 hours. If the any of the laser lenses are plastic, you could melt (soften) them from heat build up and if they change shape your dead.
Looking at a new sub for ML
I've seen REL's setup wrong at dealers as well. Who knows??I actually acted like I knew nothing about subs and when I commented on the interesting setup wiring, the salesperson bragged about how they figured out a way to get more bass out of the s...
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
New formats won't succeed until they're in mass market players that sell to the general public. Remember the Macintosh operating system appeared 8 years before Windows, but lost out because Apple would not share it. The same thing happened to Beta...
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
If you saw the thread on my just arrived Stan Warren modified DVD player, my thinking was to give it at try. I am still breaking it in, but sounds good so far. I do not know if it will best my limited edition Rotel RCD-990, but it should be better...
