Is vinyl still a "perfect" source?
04-07-07: ElizabethLP is just a "nostalgia" medium.Things were never better than in the 'old days'.I OWN 10,000 LPs, have two turntables etc..But for folks thinking about getting into LP either again, or for the first time.. you are nuts! Why? I g...
TOP Format
1. Vinyl2. SACD3. CDIMHO, it all depends on your musical taste.Rudy
Upgrade of tonearm for the Ace Space Deck
I am very satisfied with my SME V on my Spacedeck. It made quite a difference to the Ace Spacearm. It depends if you are a 'VTA-Guy'. Perhaps the Triplanar VII would then be a better alternative.
Best analog sounding cd player under 5K
McIntosh MCD201.
Future of CD's - Hard drive based music
Plus I can listen to radio all day long. Soon cdps will be things of the past.Yep, as long as you rip 'Red Book' CD's. But this is entirely different with SACD. And in my system/room and to my ears, SACD is superior.
Inventory of vinyl - what software do you use?
I don't know your knowledge about software developing. But I made my record database with PHP and MySql. In this way I can access it from every OS with any browser. The following are the fields I am using :idArtist_ConductorComposerAlbum_TitleReco...
The importance of proper set-up
It seams that I am one of the lucky few who can not hear the change in VTA/VTF. That is why I have an SME V and enjoy the music.;)
Vinyl lovers--in case you haven't tried this yet
Yes, I am puzzled too why a mono cartridge is better than a stereo cartridge on a mono record. Perhaps someone can enlighten us, before I spend another 1 or 2 grand on a cartridge.;)Rudy
So much for that???
You think this is expensive? Lately there was an auction on eBay where a Starker was auctioned for $1200. The LP was used ! IMO the $90 reissue is better sounding anyways, as almost all reissues.
New Records noisy
Sorry Thomas, I didn't mean to be b&w. I am on your side.;) And it is absolutely unacceptable to spend some $120 on "The Royal Ballet Gala Performance" 45rpm reissue, and then you have to send the LP back because it is damaged. This happened t...
New Records noisy
I bought over 80 Classic Records in the last 12 month. Most of them are in a great quality, especially the 1S box sets. From time to time there are records which I have to send back. Mostly because they are scratched. The noise on the records are ...
Need MC Step-Up Transformer advice?
Doug, I agree. The noise level of my Mu is beyond my listening level. The hiss of the 50s classical reissue recordings are far more pronounced. Besides, those before mentioned issues are all theoretical, which are insignificant. What matters is we...
Buy MacIntosh gear w/o auditioning?
A few weeks ago I bought a MA6900 here on agon. I could not be more happy. I did not audition it before hand. IMO the only audition which is worth it is in my system/room. And there is not dealer who lends me several amps for auditioning. The same...
McIntosh solid state amps, left on at all times ?
What McIntosh amp do you mean? Mine (MA6900) has a standby switch and a power switch. The power switch is always on. When I don't use it I switch the standby switch to off. I assume that the amp in this way is always warmed up.
Marantz SA-11S1 and transport noise.
Wepratt, thanks. Now I sleep better. Does yours have the plastic drawer or is it metal? I ask because the TAS review seams a little bit confusing, at least to me.;) The reviewer says 'The transport mechanism is largely metal'. I guess he does not ...
