SQ of "Rock of Ages" on CD
@tomic601  Thanks. Do you mean the box set? I'm going to buy the 2 disc version.
SQ of "Rock of Ages" on CD
@tomic601  Thanks for your comments. I plan to order the Academy version this week.
SQ of "Rock of Ages" on CD
@jafant  The hybrid SACD just says "Original Master Recording". Hasn't MoFi admitted to making such claims falsely in the past? Are R. Robertson's assertions reliable?  I don't know.   But given the SQ (or lack thereof) of the MoFi and my fond...
SQ of "Rock of Ages" on CD
@jafant  Thanks for your input. I haven't found that original mixes are uniformly more pleasing to my ears; it really depends on the record in question.  And given R. Robertson"s opinion, I'm curious to hear the Academy of Music version.  I'll ...

@bkeske  Have you heard the Academy of Music mix?
SQ of "Rock of Ages" on CD
Yeah-- I dunno about about SACD SQ (never owned an SACD player) but I've found the Redbook SQ of MoFi hybrids to be very inconsistent. Some are quite good, others just meh-- most definitely not worth the money.  As far as the Band album is concer...
SQ of "Rock of Ages" on CD
Just found a Sound and Vision interview with R. Robertson. Apparently the original mixing was done by him and Phil Ramone at Criteria, before the studio was completed and they didn't like the mix, either, which Robertson describes as "murky". Supp...
SQ of "Rock of Ages" on CD
@tomcy6  Thanks; I'll check it out.  I asked here because I've purchased cds before that were popular on the Hoffman site and have not liked the SQ of the mixes they favor. I suspect Rock of Ages was simply not recorded well, to begin with, whi...
David Crosby R.I.P.
My favorite CSN/CSNY tunes have always been Crosby's. His distinctive melodic sensibility and fondness for open tunings on big 'ol Martin dreads has a lot to do with it. IICORMN is one of my favorite albums of its genre.  As to his personal falli...

@roxy54  +1... and grateful!
RIP Jeff Beck
Sure wasn’t expecting this. What a loss to music. The term "unique" is way over-used but is entirely appropriate in this case.
What are your top 3 favorite female singers?

Favourite Guitarists
@bigpopsmusic  "This is a good list for a select few genres…expand your music genres and you’ll expand your list…" Good point. There's a heavy Rock bias here. Perhaps it's a generational thing?   I listen to a lot of Jazz and my favorite Jazz a...

It's always a treat to catch such greats in small venues. I saw Albert at a small theater in Grass Valley (Center for the Arts), sitting in with a local band. He also did a couple solo tunes on piano. BTW, I lived in Santa Barbara '76 - '82. That ...

@dodgealum  Lucky you!   The closest experience I've had to that was seeing the Hot Band (without EmmyLou) in a tiny cafe in Santa Barbara in the late 70's, with Rodney Crowell, Albert Lee and Frank Reckard in attendance.
