@curiousjim From what I’ve read, the idea that heroin could improve one’s playing was largely based upon a seemingly "mythological" interpretation of the life of Charlie Parker. By the way, "Celebrating Bird" by Gary Giddins is an excellent bio...

@curiousjim  Ah, OK.  No vinyl?  I guess you're not a "serious" audiophile, then!  ;o)  Yes; my best friend was a very talented artist who eventually OD'd on meth. He'd started out smoking pot, like so many of us in the early 70's for whom exper...

@curiousjim Yes. Heroin, I believe.... Don't know if this is of interest to you: https://www.udiscovermusic.com/news/leo-parker-rollin-with-leo-blue-note-tone-poet-reissue/

@curiousjim  Oh yeah -- that's a good one !
Recommended for Americana Fans: Amanda Ann Platt and the Honeycutters
@slaw Very talented guitarist, singer and songwriter (probably) best known in "jam band" circles but "Fade Away Diamond Time" sounds like 70’s Southern CA Country-Rock, a style that, of course, heavily influenced Alt. Country. Casal played in th...
My Denafrips Aries 15th has too much mid -bass, anybody else??
@barfbag It’s very easy to get seduced by reviews and assume that what others swoon over will do the same for you. In fact, this happened to me, recently, with a much more expensive DAC. However, I intentionally purchased it from a seller who of...

@slaw Yes; Alt. Country is typically included within Americana, although I’ve personally never cared for it. Do you know this?   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fg39fBwvNWY&list=PLC8cS0Gcnu2E9ZL6vl2z8GuerOASfMlUC
Is there any such thing as a bad sounding DAC these days?
@curiousjim I wish you luck! @jmrrobbie1  No but there are some reviews on youtube. If I recall, the highs are reputedly somewhat "lively". As soon as I saw that, I crossed it off my list.  Not to say you wouldn't like it. FYI, Listen Up!  is...
Joey Molland has passed away
If you watch any of the youtube video’s of live (or lip synching) performances you’ll note Joey (unlike the others) is clowning for the camera and repeatedly trying to connect with the bass player, who steadfastly ignores him. This might suggest s...
Is there any such thing as a bad sounding DAC these days?
@curiousjim  Looking again, I no longer see a used one listed. They are an Aqua dealer so you could conceivably get a new one and return it if you can stomach/afford the restocking fee.
Is there any such thing as a bad sounding DAC these days?
@curiousjim  FYI, Last time l looked at TMR, they had a used La Scala. They accept returns although they now charge a 5% restocking fee.

A DAC that measures well and pleases others but does not please me may be deemed "superb", but what’s the relevance of such an assessment if I don’t want to listen to it?
Has it all been worth it?
@craigvmn I’m assuming this is a rhetorical question. Perhaps examine your expectations and carefully consider whether they were/are realistic. Perhaps, at present, you are seeking "something else" that simply cannot be achieved via audio?
The "young people' music thread - Artists younger than 40 years old
As @slaw and @bdp24 have asserted, the genres of Americana, Hard Country, and Bluegrass are generously populated by gifted younger artists. There are also singer songwriters whose music is a hybrid of these styles, along with Folk influences. In f...

Anita ’O Day doesn’t seem to garner much attention, these days... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUcZ9-ps4js https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbwZ_dLgvR0&list=RDEMt59qM7SlZddYO-MLfmF4Hg&start_radio=1&rv=7mzyzCyLyBI https://www.youtu...
