Newbie Question
Hi  ghosthose. I checked and it is possible to bypass internal DAC in BlueSound vault2. I've been reading some reviews of various servers and apparently the server does affect the sound fed to an external dac, so I have to decide whether I just wa...
Still looking for a DAC I can demo at home. . .
@ghosthouse: Thanks for taking the time to offer a more detailed response re: the Schiit dacs.
Still looking for a DAC I can demo at home. . .
@randy-11: I didn't realize Benchmark had a home trial. Thanks! @chayro: The Wells replaced a tubed Jolida integrated-- no contest!  At this point, I'm not interested in more Jolida gear, but thanks. @ghosthouse: Just wondering why you chose Gumby...
Best Footers for DAC?
Yikes! I didn't mean to facilitate flame wars. @lak: I will place the DAC on its own shelf.  One footer material I've yet to try is ceramic. Will do. @randy-11: I read the Barry Diament article. Makes sense. Where does one buy his "Hip Joints"?
Best Footers for DAC?
Thanks. I will check out the ISO pucks and DiD's. . . I wory that "Hard ceramic balls coupled with stainless steel or aluminum" is a recipe for fatiguing highs, but of course, there's no way to know except through trial and error. I did try Herbie...
Anyone heard the Unison Unico Due cdp ?
I'd really rather not deal with tubes and I don't need a streamer, so I'm going to try something else, alos from Europe (Netherlands): Metrum Pavane. Currently discounted to $3700 and very well reviewed. Sup-posedly more analog-sounding than Yggdr...
Anyone heard the Unison Unico Due cdp ?
audiotroy: I'm talking about the Unico Due cdp/dac/streamer:http://www.unisonresearch.com/en/products/unico-series/sources/unico-cd-due.htmlThanks for the comments. Turns out, I'll be able to demo it in my system, next week. Needless to say, I'm v...
Please suggest bookshelf with best bass response under $4000 pr.
@audiotroy:  Actually, I don't enjoy trying/buying gear over and over, unlike some audiophiles I know!  As I don't have a huge budget, but have very "picky" ears, I find the process quite stressful. There are no stores in the Sacramento area that ...

Wow-- a lot of suggestions, here. Thanks to all. This is a lot to sort through. The Silverlines use Dynaudio drivers, BTW. @audiotroy : your assertion that I need to go out and hear speakers brings up another point. I haven't bought any gear based...
Please suggest bookshelf with best bass response under $4000 pr.
willemj: In fact, the SVS is one I've definitely considered. But as I've said, when I ask salesmen about the fussiness of sub placement, they always hedge their responses, which makes me hesitate. I did read the Harbeth review. . . interesting! Wi...
Please suggest bookshelf with best bass response under $4000 pr.
I apologize for the late response. . . RE: recommendations for Dynaudio, the Silverlines use Dynaudiop drivers, for whatever that's worth. No doubt, there are other design variations that come into play from one box to another. RE: recommendations...
Please suggest bookshelf with best bass response under $4000 pr.
I just found an a'gon ad for monitors with this claim:  "The __________ are full range Studio Monitors that will provide the entire frequency range, therefore, eliminating the need of using a subwoofer which cannot be fully integrate with speaker...
Please Recommend Transport + DAC for $5K total
Not many choices for gear I can try out at home and return, if necessary. A Cambridge CXC and Schiit Gumby looks like a good pair to try. I've read that the DAC section in the Simaudio Neo 260D is comparable to the stand alone Neo 280D-- not sure ...

Other matters have unavoidably  pulled me away from this thread but I do appreciate all the input-- collectively, you've provided a lot of info to chew over!

auxinput: I meant to say I'd never heard of LKS.
