Frustrated with the sound of my system
I thought I would give you some updates in terms of what I have been trying. Based on your input I moved around the room. The speakers are now centered on a wall, about 3 feet off the back wall and about 9 feet apart. The listening position is sti...
Frustrated with the sound of my system
Guys(figuratively), I really appreciate all the lively discussion. I will have the house to myself for the majority of the week, so I will experiment with speaker placement and listening position. There is a wealth of information from you and you ...
Frustrated with the sound of my system
Thanks for the input so far....I really appreciate it. My room is 18 X 18 with 9 foot ceiling. Double french doors on on wall (usually open), triple windows with blinds on another wall, and a sofa, chair and desk in the room. THe floor is carpeted...
Vintage loudspeakers....Sleeper models....
I have a pair of Ohm C2 speakers. I just refoamed them and reconditioned the cabinets. They are in very good shape. You can read about them at Ohmspeakers.com. They are 10" three ways in walnut cabinets. I would say they weigh about 30 lbs per spe...
Steely Dan live last night
I saw them last year in Atlanta. Excellent concert and great musicians. Did they still have guitarist John Herrington and drummer Keith Carlock? Babylon Sisters and Peg were amazing....and I only wished they would have played My Old School....can'...
Tube Preamps
Yes, in general a tube preamp, or tubes somewhere in the chain will reduce brightness or glare. At least that has been my experience. Something else I do that tames my speakers is I cut some felt to place around the tweeter...so it sort of looks l...
ST-70 modifications
Just to add a little more detail to my request, I am not an experienced DIY'er. I have made interconnects and refoamed speakers but that is about it. I am pretty comfortable with my ability to solder and follow instructions and take my time on pro...
Refoaming vintage OHM speakers
Already contacted Ohm. They would only sell me new woofers at $145 a piece. Really want to try to refoam first.

Which female artist
I would also highly recommend Jennifer Warnes (The Hunter, The Well and Famous Blue Rain Coat). But I am also surprised that no one has mentioned Mary Black, one of my all time favorites. I especially like No Frontiers and Holy Ground, but almost ...

will adding a subwoofer improve overall audio
I have a relatively modest system in a small room (Sonic Frontiers pre, Classe amp, Rotel/MSB front end, North Creek Music speakers with Kimber and Cardas wiring. I added an M&K sub right before they went out of business. For me the addition a...
Question about tubes in the old days
When I was in high school (70's) I had a Dynaco SCA-35 integrated amp...about 17 watts/side using EL-84 tubes. I listened to that thing for hours on end. I never replaced a tube. When I went to college I moved to a Pioneer solid state receiver. Fa...
The best acoustic guitar recordings??
I would recomend another Michael Hedges album: "Watching My Life Go By" and then relatively early Phil Keaggy stuff like "The Wind and the Wheat" and especially "Beyond Nature".
