Azimuth adjustment on VPI Scoutmaster
I have a Superscoutmaster......In my experience proper azimuth adjustment is the most important adjustment.  VPI arms balance on a single point and will rock when imbalance occurs.  There is now a 2nd pivot which is on sale now that stabilizes the...

Davey.....how can you make a statement like that.....oh its only the internet.  I replaced the Linn with a Sota, and then a VPI that I've had for ten years or so without a bit of trouble. Easy to upgrade .... and enjoy. 
Cardas Clear Light vs Clear Sky
the older Cardas sounded "tubby" and lifeless.   The newer ones are less so, but no Cardas cable sounds good in my system.

can you really tell when anti-skate is set up properly?  To ME, the music sounds the same no matter what anti-skate or even no anti-skate is utilized.   The big dog in arm setup is azimuth....that really makes a difference.

I would only choose a tonearm that can be adjustable in all needed parameters.....weight of cartridge, height, overhang, azimuth.

These speakers are really good and therefore have to be matched with really good electronics.   If there are flaws in the preceding components, cables, etc. they will be exposed.  Thiels can be wonderful or really annoying if great care is not obs...

You have to use an analogue sound meter - not digital.  Are you using balanced or single ended?   
Pop Sound in my speakers when driven loud from studio recorded CD sources.
I would listen to the offending CD on another player (car?) to hear if the pop is on the CD.  The second thing is to determine if the amp is clipping....listen with a lower volume.  Next determine if the "pop" is coming from any of the drivers the... 
A problem with AC Power you may not have considered.
