Passive preamp to a power amp?
Passives never worked for me
Vandersteen Quatro sub setup
You have to use an analogue sound meter - not digital.  Are you using balanced or single ended?
Pop Sound in my speakers when driven loud from studio recorded CD sources.
I would listen to the offending CD on another player (car?) to hear if the pop is on the CD.  The second thing is to determine if the amp is clipping....listen with a lower volume.  Next determine if the "pop" is coming from any of the drivers the...
A problem with AC Power you may not have considered.
Spacialking......good thought....thanks
Cardas Golden Reference XLR or Straightwire Crescendo XLR ?
Cardas never worked in my system.....
Speakers near fireplace
I have 5A's that were in the same room as the fireplace ....all the lows flu away.....up, up and away....

..a couple of years ago a lightening strike took out one of my Vandersteen amps (right side) in my 5A speakers. The amp was repaired and sent back.  I don't know when, but for a couple of years, I've been hearing a noise (resonance sounding at cer...

Veridian....I'm a pro musician myself.  Music sounds WAY different from the audience than when one is performing it on stage.   Personally I listen for music differently than as an audiophile.  Sometimes I play the record twice for each of the exp...
Doug Schroeder Method, Double ic
I fell in line with the Schroeder Method and am reveling in the spectacular performance.   The aural picture is so real I feel as though I've stepped into the performance.  I can follow each single instrument and appreciate what it brings to the p...

Skeptic or just plain hard headed
I used the Purist Audio burn in disc and  the Ayre burn in disc....they did nothing that I could hear for the new cables......time with signal made a great deal of difference.
Thoughts on VTA......
how can you use different platter mats ......every one sounds different.  I find rear arm height makes little difference when near the "ideal" whatever that is.....however correct azimuth is a huge deal for quality sound.
Fixing your cable problems forever.
I made my power cables....Accrolink and top Furutech plugs.....work fabulous for me.  For those that are interested...look at the Doug Schroeder suggestion of doubling up....   I did and find them much better than any store bought items.
Best MM?
I have an Ortofon Winfield.....I know the Black is very good.....I'd take a closer look at Soundsmith.
Thoughts on VTA......
Not important....set the arm at level or slightly higher and be done with it.  Azimuth however should be as close to perfect as you can get it...greatly affects the sound
