Fluctuations of the loudness of speakers???
To change a tube, open the case, just pull out the tube when cold,,,pull straight up - don't twist it... and replace with the same tube type and number. You might have some dirt on the pins of the old tube, so I would remove and replace the same t...
Looking for power amp with warm, smooth sound
You could smooth the sound with the addition of new power cords. Gold ends (check VHAudio.com) by Oyieda will do it. The ends make the biggest difference...you can use the best Home Depot wire for the rest.
Whatever happened to Straight Wire?
Dabluguy...the fact that Straightwire is used internally means nothing. We audiophiles use cable from the amp that must execute a very different job than internal wiring. I was talking to Richard Vandersteen about this who said that there are many...
Fluctuations of the loudness of speakers???
Recheck your cables...(interconnects and speaker) - make sure they are clean and tight.
Nordost flat line cabels vs norse series
I agree...Blue Heaven's are excellent cables. The only qualm is a light - less than powerful low end. The mids and highs are wonderful.
Silver IC cable between Phono and Preamp
The fact that a cable is silver does not mean anything, except price. I have heard bright and dull silver cables, copper cables that have sounded better than silver, etc. Base your decision on listen, not on hype, and you will be satisfied in the ...
I'm taking a poll...
I adjust VTA by listening to width and depth of the soundstage, and also to clean definition, but I do not adjust VTA as a tone control. Although my VPI tonearm is VERY easy to adjust on the fly...I just leave it alone once I get it to my satisfac...
Do I need a power cable - if so what brand?
As a follow up to Jallen's post above, I have experimented with many power cords, and have found that Cardas is the very worst. It closed up my system, added grain, reduced the sonic picture, etc. Maybe it will work better in other systems, was ve...
Ayre K-1xe vs Audio Research Ref 3
They are both excellent, but I bought the Ayre. Be warned that the Ayre works best when it in balanced mode (as do all Ayre components). Don't compare them unless you us the Ayre balanced. Also, compare it with your amp, speakers, interconnects, p...
Do I need a power cable - if so what brand?
Yes, Yes, Yes...I know it doesn't make sense...BUT...the power cords I made and included in my system was as though I changed 2 major components in my stereo. I am using Ayre equipment with very beefy power supplies, and yet...I know it shouldn't ...
2 subs?
If you do subs right, much less stress is put on your amps, so the sound is cleaner and clear without having your amps work hard for the lows. Two subs are good because it evens out the sound. For more information on this, go to Vandersteen's webs...
Reag P-5 with Ortofon 2M Bronze...???
..just my opinion, but I would rethink the Ortofon decision. Listen to Benz and Dynavektor...my personal favs, but surely the choice is yours. If you do go with Ortofon, inspect it very carefully for any misalignment or other factory defects befor...
VPI Rim Drive
..sorry...didn't mean to scare anyone, however if you have soft rubber feet you're ok. Who knows though...things change hourly in this hobby. I was referring to a feet change from the original felt/hard variety.
Relative newbie with tt questions
I seem to remember that Syrinx arms had bearing troubles. I could be mistaken
Do I need a power cable - if so what brand?
I have never met a line conditioner that didn't make matters worse. Power cords on the other hand, if carefully chosen can do great things. I have made my own power cords from Oyaide plugs and Accrotech cable. Go to VHAudio.com and check it out if...
