Best cheap speaker cables............again
Belden 5000 from Blue Jeans cable, and spend the leftover $250 on wine.
Does Separates really sound better than Integrated
Yes, integrated set ups can sound just as good as separates. I have separates (monoblocs), and I bi-amp, mostly because I like the flexibility and the endless tweaking that separates allow for. What's more, the monoblocs, pre-amp, and cd-player ar...
Tord Gustavsen's Extended Circle is Extraordinary
Ps68: yes, this is a new release. I have Kijanki's selections too (there was a fourth release, with vocals I think, that wasn't so hot), and this is quickly becoming my favorite.
Wire differences explained common sense
Human psychology is a curious little maze of twists and turns, corkscrews and loops. Hand someone a warm beverage in a warm cup, and they'll have a completely different take on the next person they meet, without having any idea that the beverage i...
Are different stereo amp models in same system ok?
You needn't use the same model. In fact, many people use ss for the bass, tube for the mids and highs. I've been doing that for years to great effect. SS amp has 3 times the output, but it has volume pots, which get turned back to about 40%.
Subwoofer to match my B&W 601s2,CC6s2 and DM600i
I can't say enough about the SVS non-ported 1000. Great return policy, warranty, and craftsmanship. I bought two primarily for 2-channel music, but even at 1/5 volume they give me all the depth I need. $949 for the pair and free shipping on a 45 d...
Beatles Tribute Tv special....
I was blown away by Ed Sheeran's version of "In My Life." Just astonishing. It's on Vimeo I believe. John Legend and Alicia Keys were tremendous too, I thought.
subwoofer suggestions
I just picked up a pair of the SVS SB 1000s myself, to extend the bottom range of my Von Schweikert VR5 HSEs. $949 w/ shipping and free return after 45-day trial. Used for two-channel stereo and HT. The VR5s don't need much help, truth be told. Bu...
Von Schweikert UniField One
This isn't a direct response to your question since I haven't heard the Uni Ones, but I will say that in the right hands, a coaxial design can give superb results. My Kef Reference 3s (why did I ever sell those?) had coaxials and the blend of high...
Good speakers to be placed close to rear wall
The Von Schweikert VR 33s are hard to beat in that price range. They sell for just a little over 3k, and hardly any of that is going into the cabinets (they're cloth). I heard a pair 6 months ago, and was blown away. Highly recommended.
Lou Reed has died R.I.P.
I know one shouldn't speak ill of the dead, but I'd rather listen to a toilet flush than to Lou Reed. I missed the Kool-Aid truck, evidently.
Power Cords Snake Oil ??
That suggests that manufacturers could offer "power cords" in increments as small as 2 or 3 inches, so long as the connectors would fit, while still getting the full effect of the cord. On the other hand, I guess it's all for nothing if the wire i...
Power Cords Snake Oil ??
My question is this: if Ruby Mountain AC cable by Siltech, say, which runs 6k for 1 meter, were sold in a 1/4 meter size for $2000 (allowing $500 extra expense for terminations) would it make a difference in sound? Could you, in other words, just ...
Wrong setup?
That's good advice you're getting. I'd also add that piano recordings are by far the most difficult to engineer and reproduce. High-frequency sizzle is sometimes, strangely enough, more common in good quality speakers, if only b/c the low quality ...
What did Shahinian Obelisks cost in the late 1980s
I don't want to hijack the thread, but I've always been curious about these speakers. What's so special about them? Thanks.
