I'll second the SVS SB 1000s. I bought a pair delivered for under 1k, and they're tremendous. Great company, great product. Highly recommended.
Where should I spend my $2000?
Full range speakers big enough to move more air while maintaining fidelity. And I'd definitely buy them second hand.
Importance of recapping a SS amp?
I have a vintage Kenwood Supreme 600 from 1974. In 2006 I had it recapped, and it was overdue, but not by 17 years. You couldn't hear any degradation in sound, but the big caps had started to bulge at the bottom. After the recap, things were brigh...
Marcin Wasilewski Trio--Spark of Life
Didn't know about Simple Acoustic Trio. I first heard them w/ T. Stanko. Those two cds (no mp3s for me) seem to be hard to come by. I'll keep my eyes open. Wish ECM would release them.
Is there a minimum length for power cords?
Geoffk,"that" is mos def an indef ref.
cables vs wire?
A third vote for Blue Jeans Cable. Great cables, prices and service. No voodoo. My entry- and exit-level cables, and everything in between.
Is there a minimum length for power cords?
High-end power cord manufacturers are in a bit of a pickle: if the power cords do everything that's claimed--that is, if they somehow make up for the "problems" in all of the wiring coming from your local power transformer to your wall socket--the...
Keith Jarrett &Charlie Haden: Last Dance. Stellar.
BTW, it's worth noting that lots of musicians vocalize, it's just that jazz pianists (if they're playing acoustic) have mics very close to them, so the mics pick it up. If electric guitarists were mic'd, you'd hear a lot of noise. A lead guitarist...
Keith Jarrett &Charlie Haden: Last Dance. Stellar.
Everest is right: very, very little vocalizing. He's gotten quiet of late.
Upgrade advice needed
Don't assume the problem is in your system. Pianos and violins often sound harsh live (pianos especially), and the "better" your system, the more you'll pick it up. Then too, recordings sometimes unwittingly add or just emphasize distortion in the...
Any thoughts on removing a preamp from your system
Thanks for the help George. Much appreciated.
Any thoughts on removing a preamp from your system
Hi George, Tube tops have 470k ohm input impedance; ss bottom has a 50k input impedance. Passive pre is a Canary CA-200. Thanks.
Any thoughts on removing a preamp from your system
I have a passive pre in my system right now and the music sounds great: tubes on the top end, ss on the bottom, and I have no idea whether impedance matches or doesn't match. That said, when I get my active pre (tube) back from being repaired, I'll...
In Awe of "Yessongs" Forty Years Later
I graduated HS in 76, but for the previous5 years had listened to everything Yes had put out, and had gone to four or five Yes concerts.Picked up Close to the Edge a few years back on cd, and was stunned by how well it holds up. Great music and mu...
Tube Amp Recommendations $1500
Will Vincent's Dynaco Mk IIIs are awfully nice. A pair comes in at about $1400 if memory serves. He goes by autospec here on the board.
