Need Recommendations for a pair of Speakers around $1,000
That’s a big space to fill but you might get away with some used KEF LS-50s & a used Rel sub. $800 or so for the KEFs & $300 for for a Rel. I have a family room/connected kitchen that size combination & it fills the space really well.
best amp for a Maggy 1.7i
A PS Audio Stellar S300 at 140 watts @ 8 Ohms and 300 watts @ 4 Ohms, should drive those Maggies.  It sells new for $1650 and can be found used for $800 to $900.  PS used to offer discounts with a trade in, although I'm not sure if they still do t...
recommended speaker cables and interconnects
As previously mentioned... DH Labs & Wireworld. Many different price levels to select from. Audio Envy interconnects & power cords are a great bang for the buck, as is the Audience Forte F3 power cord.  Around $160 for the Forte F3 & i...
Looking for Blues with High Fidelity
Listen to Mighty Sam Mcclain "Where You Been So Long". Amazing Blues Recording. When shopping for my Magnepans, the dealer played this cut & sold me on buying a pair. It’s on Tidal. Also check out Boz Scaggs "Thanks To You" on Tidal. This trac...
Subwoofer between speakers?
I have 2 REL subs slightly behind & to the insides of my magnepans & they sound best there. I tride them in opposite corners 4 feet behind & to the outside of the Maggie but it didn't  sound nearly as good. Much too boomy.
The Best Preamp is no Preamp?
My system sounds much better with a pre amp in the mix. I have a PS Audio BHK pre amp, PS Audio DSD Sr. DAC (which has a volume control), and PS Audio BHK250 power amp pushing Tannoy DC8Ti speakers. About a year ago, I sent the BHK pre in for rep...
Tidal vs Qubuz - Steely Dan "Jack of Speed"
One track does not an informed decision make.Good enough for some to opine about. Wow, so very profound.  Thank you for your insight.
Tidal vs Qubuz - Steely Dan "Jack of Speed"
Basing an audio decision based on the assessment, determination, and conclusion of hearing just just one, single, solitary track is not very wise you should expand your horizons they may have even been mastered differently. Man there are some s...
Recommendations on small ESL speakers for tiny room
Planer & ESL speakers need to be away from the front wall. Planers at LEAST 3ft & according to Martin login, at least 2ft for the Electromotion ESL-X. My Maggie 1.7is didn’t sound their best until I pulled them out to 4ft. A 10x10 room isn...
Tired of all the gimmicky pricing, i.e. $999.99 or $927
To the OP... WTF are you whining about? Your post is more delusional than the pricing. $.99 has been the retail marketing standard forever. Here’s a good read on retail pricing strategies, though it may be over your head. Gawd I hate inane posts...
Totally overwhelmed (speakers under $5k)
Magnepan 3.7i. Untouchable for the cost if you have the right Amp.
Beautiful Music That Reduce You To Tears
When my ex wife calls and says "We need to talk".
a remarkably basic question about Roon
I like Roon a lot, but there is one PITA issue if you use Tidal. Playlists in Tidal can be imported to Room, BUT not from Room into Tidal. So, if you build Roon playlists & only stream at home where your core server is, all is good. However, I...
Solid state amp recommendations for Maggies?
Although it’s a hybrid, I’m using a PS Audio BHK 250 with my 1.7is and it sounds wonderful. Retains the definition & tight bass of solid state while adding the warmth and complexity of tubes. Upstream I’m using a PS Direct stream & a PS BH...
Replacement for current speakers suggestions
It’s tough to beat the Maggie 1.7i for the money, however, to do them justice, they have to be AT LEAST 3 feet out from the front wall. 4 to 5 feet is much better, unless you have some diffusion behind them. Also, they don’t have much bass impact,...
