How often do you turn it on? As I am retired, I listen to my main system 3-4 hours every day for serious listening. The rest of the day I listen to my secondary system while surfing the net. I listen to FM Stereo mostly on that system. | |

IN YOUR EXPERIENCE ?? WHAT IS THE QUIETEST 12AX7 TYPE TUBE ??? 6072 ? Spiral Filament The quietest tubes I have heard are the McIntosh branded 12ax7 tubes that came with my McIntosh C2500 preamp. Dead silent, even with the volume control at max, not a peep from the speakers. Not sure who makes the tubes but my guess would be JJ? | |
Mystery of the whistling amplifier Perhaps the tube sockets themselves need cleaning. That may account for the amp sounding ok for a while after you swap tubes around. | |

Funny question, 170lb speaker and foam base, how to remove?. When I unboxed my T Refs (140 pounds), I laid them on their side over a padded bench in the living room and removed the foam from the base. Easy peasy. | |
