Great country music recording One of my favorite cd's is Mary Chapin Carpenter's "C'mon, C'mon". Beautiful voice and guitar.Excellent recording and every slow song (about half the tracks on the cd) is beatifully done.-IMO
Is the McCormack DNA .5 that great? Perhaps I am one of those the original poster was thinking of when he mentioned those who hype the McCormack amps. Keep in mind that in the case of McCormack DNA-x model amps, because of Steve McCormack's revisions to these amps, one must look at ...
What to update first: pre or power amp? Since, in my opinion, the amplifier is by far the most underrated component in any system, I would ensure that that part was taken care of first and then match everything else to the amp.-IMO
Possible move to tubes… help direct me Could it be, Kkursula, that my suggestion sounds unusual to you because you've never heard any McCormack DNA Revision A amplifier?Or if you had, then could you please clarify why you think it unusual?-IMO
Possible move to tubes… help direct me I would suggest looking for one or perhaps two McCormack DNA 0.5 Revision A Gold amplifiers. With this amp, you should get the very best of both tube and solid-state.Even in their stock form, the 100 wpc DNA 0.5 was a legendary amp just a few year...
critical listening - i hear something i don't like Objective1, don't mind Ohlala. She's just like that sometimes.-IMO
critical listening - i hear something i don't like You don't mention your equipment, but I would guess that you are experiencing deficiencies in your amp where the sonics become constipated, congested, and/or restricted on loud and/or complex and/or otherwise demanding passages.Another reason why ...
Can a low resistance speaker be efficient? I cannot imagine any low watt tube amp sufficing for your Dunlavy's. If the Pass Labs X-350 falls short in any way, then replace it with an amp that does not fall short. -IMO
Warm sounding cables - non fatiguing Redkiwi, you've obviously tried 'many' of the 'warmer' cables and since you include Audience (Au24's I assume) cables as one of the many 'warm' cables, perhaps you'd care to share which cables you consider to be 'fast' and 'open' which also 'achie...
Does balanced interconnect sound beter than RCA? The answer to your question is perhaps. But you need to perform comparisons in your system to be certain. I won't pretend to be an expert, but to the best of my knoweldge, a system need not be fully balanced in order to obtain any sonic benefits f...
Damping Vibration - Friend or Foe? Barry, thanks for the update and congratulations on the numerous awards and recognitions for your ingenuity and designs.-IMO
Anyone use McCormack with older Infinity? As a previous owner of a DNA-2 LAE and now a current owner of a DNA-2 Revision A, I would suggest that if, per chance, your speakers don't match well with the LAE, you might consider looking for new speakers. But I would not anticipate any problem...
85/15 Music/movies, Best HT Processor for Music?? The Primare P30 pre/pro is very good. With my 2-channel system and in my home, I've A/B compared the P30 to 5 pre-amps including the Ayre k3-x, Placette Active Linestage, and the Pass Labs X2.5. These are all class A rated 2 channel pre-amps.For m...
Warm sounding cables - non fatiguing I'd suspect the fatigue you are concerned about comes from those products which enhance detail while also inducing an overly bright presentation and/or adding a potential grain and hash along with the enhanced detail. In addition, those products th...
What Do You Get When You Spend Megabucks? No spite here. As one had put it so simply some time ago, "The best thing one can spend on their system is time." I believe THAT is the secret to making most any system superior in sonics. Almost regardless of costs. But then again, I can only imag... |
