What cartridge to use....Rega RB25 Structural Mod
"....I auditioned a Rega RB-300 vs SME V on a special Michell Gyrodec table that could accomadate two arms. Both had Koetsu Blacks mounted. We heard very little if any difference between the two arms/cartridges. The owner of this system then decid...
What cartridge to use....Rega RB25 Structural Mod
I am not suprised that you preferred the Moerch and Scheu over just a rewired RB 250 because you have to do more than just a rewire. The smearing is there very noticeably until you also add a metal stub and then use TWL's amazing Tracking Weight Tw...
What cartridge to use....Rega RB25 Structural Mod
Yes,Poaul Ladegaard in his paper on mechanical resonances in turntables established that lightweight arms are really the best performers overall.I think he used a Danish Moerch arm as one of the arms in the experiment actually. This was cognizant a...
What cartridge to use....Rega RB25 Structural Mod
I am not the owner of all those arms, they probably belonged to a whole lot of people.I was actually quoting from Garth's experience with Rega arms who makes the Incognito Rewire Modification, which no doubt you are familiar with.He also states "I d...
What cartridge to use....Rega RB25 Structural Mod
"Clearly idler wheels suffer from so much noise contamination that the subtleties in the music are lost, and quality cartridges and arms are a waste of time (and money)." I believe that Mr.Sugano first developed the Koetsu on a Garrard Idler Wheel...

Curved OR straight Rega arm
I think the Rega straight arms were definitely considered an improvement, the RB 300 was revolutionary in it's day. That said people still like the curved arms and consider them very good.
How can I adjust speed on Ariston Q Deck?
Yes there are a number of avenues to try and the guy over at The Vinyl Engine fixed his speed problem with a regulated supply. The belt suggestion is good and I would check to see there is lubrication in the spindle-well also.A thicker type of oil ...
How can I adjust speed on Ariston Q Deck?
I answered one of these questions over at Vinyl Engine and the cure was to use a regulated not unregulated power supply to power the table. So try that a DC 12V 350Ma at least.
Digitally recorded lps?
Among analogue buffs digitally recorded or remastered L.P's tend to generally be avoided.Having made that statement I confess to just having listened to The Beatles Let it Be(Naked)and found it very good indeed. This is because I believe now with 2...
Questions about SACD vs.analog for classical music
John Atkinson stated about SACD..."the DSD encoding does capture ultrasonic information, as claimed. But look at what happens above 40kHz in this graph:(see Atkinson article :http://www.stereophile.com//digitalsourcereviews/340/index8.html) DSD's ...
Questions about SACD vs.analog for classical music
O.K I confess that I seldom listen to digital and am a 'lurker' thinking about how you all do yourselves a disservice by not building an 'idler-wheel' Lenco or Garrard or something..so consequently don't know what things are supposed to sound like...
Questions about SACD vs.analog for classical music
The 45Khz level is important not in terms of the fact that it is there so much, but what it does to data within the audible band.By having to force sonic artefacts into this band without reserving say a couple of bits for dither,it destroys the lin...
Questions about SACD vs.analog for classical music
They asked Ray Charles in probably his last major interview before he died ...'which is better Ray analogue or digital?..Oh analogue..' was his reply and he elaborated. In Ray Charles' opinion digital is for convenience but analogue is for sound.Fi...
Questions about SACD vs.analog for classical music
I cannot see that you could apply the'journalist' appellation to Stereophile's Editor-In-Chief John Atkinson who has done extremely interesting research into SACD performance. In the Stereophile Think Pieces archives there is a piece called 'What's...
