Describe the sound of point source loudspeakers?
mijostynPoint source speakers create a small image even if they are huge speakers. It is like sitting at the back of the concert hall. Thanks for my laugh of the day.   You must tell a whopper of a fishing story to your buddies over a beer.
Have you moved away from full range to standmount speakers + subs?
audition__audio Some of the nonsense written on this site from so called experts is astonishing.Yours included.
Cable Management Tips and Tricks
Here’s another thread. Ideally, no cables should be coiled, running parallel or touching. Signal cables and power cables definitely should be carefully spaced apart. The rats nest behind the rack should look like an intentionally arranged 3-D wire...
how would you describe a system that is musical in nature

Amperex 6DJ8 tube construction
Brent Jessee -from Audio Tubes - was kind enough to explain. The splatter shield prevented getter flash material from migrating down during the flashing process. Without the shield the flash material could stain the grid and/or plates and affect t...
Amperex 6DJ8 tube construction
After reading posts near the bottom of this discussion, it appears that it became the Wild West for NOS tubes in the 1990’s. Lots of re-branding and fakes going on.
Amperex 6DJ8 tube construction

'Made in Holland' is silkscreened on the one on the right. It matches several other ’Made in Holland’ silkscreens on NIB/NOS Amperex 6DJ8 orange globes that I purchased in the original yellow/green boxes, years ago. There are no date/factory etchi...
The Most Digital Recording You Ever Heard
unison77Yello ’Touch’ sounds nauseatingly ’digital’ in my gear - the recording is harsh with exaggerated sibilance in female voice...Zero harshness or sibilance or digitus in Yello’s ’Touch’ when played in my rig. Smooth as silk.  Female vocals so...
Clean AC power
Household Circuitry: 101All household circuits are tied together at the circuit breaker panel. Kind of like a train switchyard. The rumbling of a train will be most severe on the track it’s traveling. But, the other tracks will still suffer the ef...
Clean AC power
Dirty power = Distortion (noise) comes from 3 primary sources:1) The utility company – coming into the house circuit breaker panel.2) Appliances within the house – eg: TV’s, computers, fluorescent lighting, refrigerators, HVAC, hair-dryers, etc. S...
Adjusting the sonic fingerprint of a system.
It’s better to set the volume @100% in the digital realm. Lower the gain in the analog realm. Lowering the volume in the digital realm reduces resolution - and may introduce negative artifacts.
Second opinions — how have others (including non-audiophiles) helped you?
Years ago, I moved to a new city and discovered that I lived near an audio reviewer. I contacted him by email and he graciously invited me over to his home. As soon as he turned on the music, a whole new auditory world opened up. It was immersive,...
