Tonearms question - Please help
I answered the original question but if it were me I think I would get a Rega 3 or used VPI as Chazzbo suggested. I also think belt drive is better, I have sold both. But if you like the Denon the Jelco should work, but it may require a good tech ...
Tonearms question - Please help
That is the Jelco 750, which is a very good arm, I have one. However, the 250 arm is available in either straight or S version for $290.
Do tweeters with open rear chamber need enclosure?
I would check and see what the tweeter manufacture recommends but separate enclosures have several virtues. That said, every case is different and the ideal isn't always the most practical.
Tonearms question - Please help
The Denon arms were not that good, I would check with the Audiogoner who sells Jelco, Audiodragon I think, who may know if they will fit easily. Any of them will be much better than the Denon. The first thing to do is to completely remove the old ...
Anybody own any direct-to-disc LP's?
If you remember Holt's Law, the better the recording the worse the music you will be prepared for some of the D2Ds, like the Sheffield Drum Record; but others are quite good musically.
hardwood floors, area rugs, and spiked feet
If the rugs are wool watch out for static electricity, I damaged some componets that way even though they were grounded.
Anybody own any direct-to-disc LP's?
Sidssp, that is simply not true.I started in the early 60s and by the 80s reel to reel was essentially dead. I gave away my considerable collection of prerecorded tapes sometime in the 70s, despite using Revox, Tandberg, Ferrograph and several oth...
Luxman PD-441 What tonearm and cartridge
That is a very nice table, I had a couple of 300s [?], the belt drive with the vacuum hold down and they were quite good. The truth is there are not really any constraints on which arm and cartridge you use on this table, except that the length of...
Anybody own any direct-to-disc LP's?
Martin Colloms , who has heard everything, puts direct to disc ahead of everything else, including master tapes and Hi RES digital. I haven't heard everything but they are by far the best I have heard.
Anybody own any direct-to-disc LP's?
I have several jazz ones, one is Charlie Byrd on Crystal Clear, most of theirs are very good.
New Krell MOD for the 402 EVO amp
There is a review in the last HIFICRITIC; they thought it was a significant improvement.
Two pairs of spkrs in tandem
I didn't know Phil Spector was out of jail. The "wall of sound" approach has been tried many times, it will work to some degree with 2 pairs of identical speakers but using dissimilar speakers will result in a sound you may find pleasing but canno...
Quad 2805 v. Quad 57
That was not at one meter, but back 8' to 10' feet on my Radio Shack meter. I had left him to listen alone as this volume is way too loud for me but got the meter and came back in out of curiosity. The Nelson Reeds were designed for use in movie s...
How long should a cartridge last?
The ones I have had done sound fine. Exactly the same as before? Doubtful, two new cartridges of the same model seldom sound exactly the same. But well worth the expense; there is a good chance that they will sound better than before but that is a...
Quad 2805 v. Quad 57
Sound levels are taken at one meter, I thought that this was common knowledge but again I have overestimated Audiogon readers. It is easy to see that SOME distance must be specified in giving maximum speaker output, one meter is the distance that ...
