It,s Impossible
I have had Spendor for about 40 years now; I currently have S 100s [2 pairs] Sp -1s [2 pair], Sp 1/2Es, SP -2s. They work with a wide variety of electronics, the S 100s work well with Meridian 605s, better with a Musical Fidelity NuVista and best ...
ASR basic excl. vs Pass Labs XP15, or vs XP25
I have the ASR Basis Exclusive, which is great and has two separate phono stages. I am not sure whether you are referring to this one or the ASR Basic one, which is much smaller and cheaper. I haven't heard the Pass. The ASR is very expensive, as ...
Alternative tweeter
If you are going to use another tweeter you will have to modify the crossover, which is not easy, unless the characteristics of the new tweeter are the same as the old one.
Two Amplifiers Connected in Parallel?
You are going to get a variety of answers on this; what you are describing is horizontal bi amping. I have always liked vertical bi amping where each amp drives both sections of each speaker but others like it your way. Besides the extra power it ...
Grilles or No Grilles
Kal, it is not a blanket statement to say that you had never heard a speaker that didn't sound better with the grills off, that is a statement about what you have heard. A blanket statement would be "all speakers sound better with the grills off"....
Biwire vs Single/jumper: Cardas Golden Ref
It wasn't bad but when I went back to my Cardas jumpers [ $80 each pair] it was a definite improvement; but the Romex was better than the ones you usually get with most speakers. Another attempt to go cheap fails. The Spendor S 100s have provision...
Grilles or No Grilles
The foam grills like the ones JBL used years ago were suppose to be the most transparent; you could probably make some [or have them made] if the appearence appealed to you. Many speakers now are designed to look good nude, with the front finished...
Vibration Theory - Isolate or Drain?
CD players are also mechanical devices as they depend on reading a moving disc so vibration will have an effect on them. Note the effort by some of the top players to deal with vibration by floating the components on the chassis. I have my TT and ...
V-DAC owners: Upgraded power cable on PSU?
Not that good but too much trouble to change. I have found that the power cord did make a difference even though it draws only a very small amount of power. Obviously there is no way to do an instant comparison so skeptics will be unconvinced.
Grilles or No Grilles
My experience is that no grill sounds as good as no grill. I can't see the point of designing a speaker that needs a grill to attenuate the treble. My Mini Utopias came with a wood cover to place over the speaker when moving or storing and no gril...
V-DAC owners: Upgraded power cable on PSU?
I have had a Little Pinkie for some time and am very happy with it. I am not sure what a C7 is, mine uses a standard IEC to the wall; I usually use an Oyaide GPX PC. If the C7 is the link between the PS and the V-DAC mine is captive; I did recentl...
Vibration Theory - Isolate or Drain?
I was just checking this tonight, my CD player is on a Star Sound rack equipped with large cones for coupling to units to the rack and draining vibrations quickly. But I got a better result putting the CD player on a marble tile resting on 3 tungs...
Biwire vs Single/jumper: Cardas Golden Ref
I took it to mean putting one at the top and one at the bottom, i.e., hot to tweeter hot and ground to bass ground or vice versa. I seem to remember trying this sometime in the past but forget how it worked; let us know what you mean. I am using a...
Can you overpower a speaker
When you bridge an amp you halve its impedance rating so an amp that is stable into 1 ohm will be stable into 2 ohms bridged is the way I have always heard it described. The purpose of high power is to handle the peaks in music, a speaker rated fo...
Dunlavy SC-IV bass problem
Be sure and check the phase as Brf said. I once heard a very large pair of speakers at a friends house, I told him they didn't have much bass, he said nonsense. A couple of months later he found that the factory had wired the woofers out of phase.
