Audio's Biggest Loser?
I have an 110 pound amp, an 83 pound amp, a 75 pound phono stage and a 50 pound line stage. They will trample your puny system underfoot! Weight RULES! HAHAHAHA!
Most Beneficial Cable Upgrade
My point was that when you speak of upgrading it depends on what your upgrading FROM. You can't tell what the weakest link is until you know what the links ARE. That said, anyone who can't hear the difference between power cords in either profound...
A low cost way to try phono once again?
There are always a lot of good used tables on Audiogon. Here is one: http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?anlgtabl&1300411029&/Oracle-Alexandria-MkIII would much rather have a good used table than a new budget one. Email me if you see on...
Most Beneficial Cable Upgrade
No, because there is no answer, it depends on the perticular system in question.
A low cost way to try phono once again?
The Musical Fidelity V series phono stage is quite good at a really low price, $149 I think on sale at Music Direct. Will give you a good taste and if you want to go higher or get out you will get most of your money back.
Why the obsession with the lowest octave
When I had my Nelson-Reed 1204s [4 12" drivers a side] subs set up my favorite demo record was "Ancient Dances of Hungary" on Harmonia Mundi. The weight of the low strings was felt much more even though the 12" woofer in my main speakers went down...
What CD drive to use with DAC?
It does make a difference,Oppo has a good rep so would be a good way to go.
Why the obsession with the lowest octave
This word was one of the few contributions to our culture by Warren G. Harding if I remember correctly. At least he was the one that popularized it.
Your impressions of BPT L-9C Power Cord?
My friend just bought one but it isn't broken in yet. I have their connection boxes and they are quite good. PCs do make a difference.
Why the obsession with the lowest octave
The 1036 is a bigger and more expensive speaker. The 3 db down point on the Electra 1037 BE is 33Hz in its test in HIFI+ issue 52. As it has 3 8" woofers rather than the 2 of the 936 [ according to Audiogon Blue Book] and costs roughly twice as mu...
Why the obsession with the lowest octave
My tweeter goes out to 60,000 Hz [I'll take their word for it] and there is no music out there either. Good subs make a difference even when there is no music supposedly below the range of the main speakers; once you hear it you will miss it when ...
Cable gauge and ohm load
Taking the last first, yes you can use a smaller cable for the high end if you biwire; whether you should is the subject of much debate. As a matter of fact there is little agreement about most of the questions you pose. My own view is that thin s...
DAC new or used under 2.5K advice
The next DAC I am going to get is the Naim. List is $3000 but in this market I suspect $2500 will buy one.
Is my YBA amp enough to run Martin Logan Vistas?
That is not actually true, it depends on the speaker. Quads, for example, can be overdriven by too much power. Many electrostatics present a difficult load ; often in the high end. The ML hybrids my friend use to have went down under two ohms in th...
MF Nu Vista M3 Power Unit Umbilical Cords Change?
Just about everything, bass tighter, better transient response. I haven't used the standard ones in such a long time I have forgotten what they sound like. I liked the amp in its stock form but the cables are a noticeable upgrade.
