Did Stanton, 681 or 881 cartridges use USA Stylus?
I use to sell the Stanton in the 70s and 80s and I always thought they were made here. Don't know anything about current ones.
Integrated amp for Eggleston Andra II
I wouldn't worry about power. My M3 is rated at 275. does about 325 at 8 ohms and about 850 at 2 ohms with one channel driven and it is the lowest powered of the amps I mentioned.
Does anyone have an opinion about 7 ch. stereo?
Yes, but my mother told me that if you can't say something nice about something don't say anything.
Musical Fidelity A1008 integrated amp?
I use the Nuvista M3. From what I have read I would go with that, the TriVista, 500 or 550 in preference to the A1008 unless there is a large price differential.
Are more turntable motors better?
Using a flywheel to smooth out the drive is probably better, but not applicable in all cases. I remember seeing Micro Seiki using one of their massive tables as a flywheel to drive an identical table, using silk thread from the motor and between t...
Need help with stereo cabinet design.
For fans look at W. W Granger catalog, they have ones for every possible use. If it were me I would use something like the Star Sound rack that I use. It uses mainly open steel shelves with the components mounted on cones coupled by discs. Gives t...
do fancy fuses help?
I started a thread on this question on the HIFICRITIC forum. Got some interesting answers, you might want to take a look.
Integrated amp for Eggleston Andra II
Check out the big MF integrateds. I use a Nuvista M3 which runs quite cool, I leave it on all the time. The TriVista, 500 and 550 are even more powerful but mine is rated at 275 and actually does above 300. Because of MFs bizarre marketing strateg...
Rel Subs, 2 T1's or 1 B1
Actually, I would go with an S series sub. I use a Stadium 11 and stadium 111. I would avoid the T series, which is HT orientated. According to Paul Messenger " Previous RELs I have tried have offered good 20-40Hz output, rolling off above this at...
phono preamp with volume?
My judgement on tubes was arrived at by comparing my two tube preamps and my transistor one with my two passive preamps. The transistor lacks the "depth" of the tube units but is closer to the passive. The first time I heard a transistor amp in No...
Headphone/Headphone Amps, NEED HELP
I use 600s with Creek SS. Gives my Stax a run.
My system is getting worse - now what?
One of the great advances of the last 20 years has been the almost complete disappearance of the graphic equalizer. They were a sort of obligatory accessory for one make systems and I have never heard a system that didn't sound better without them...
phono preamp with volume?
"Adds a lot to the music" is an exact description of my feelings about tubes.
Looking for a phono preamp
You are very unlikely to find anything worthwhile at this price. I would wait until I could spend somewhat more. You would probably end up with something you would have to sell at a loss as I doubt it would satisfy you.
phono pre amp choices?
I am using the Blue Circle 707 which is quite good and within your budget. The Dynavector 75 is a steal at $750. I am a small dealer and these are the two I picked out last fall to carry solely on the basis of sound for money.
