Who has dumped the power conditioner?
I do have most of my low power requirement components plugged into a Brick Wall, which I do not consider to be a power conditioner but a power strip with protection. Can't tell the difference plugged into it or the wall outlet which is what I want.
4 Ohm Speaker with an "8 Ohm Minimum" Reciever
The smaller guage wire has a higher resistance and uses more of the current to heat itself. I have seen systems where less than half the output makes it to the speakers. I well remember a "Professional" sound man using at least 75' of 20 gauge wire.
VPI Scout "tweaks"
You laugh but a manufactures kit I still have came with 4 pennies to put under the spikes. After 20 years I forget who it was from. Possibly B&W. Seriously, something like Star Sounds discs under feet makes a considerable difference.
Musical Fidelity strange noise. HELP
I think I had something similar with my M3 I bought used last fall. I could hear a sound like static on the left channel. The bad news is I never figured out what it was; the good news is it went away. Haven't heard it in several months. May yours...
Room treatment requirement differences
Some of the planar speaker makers wanted the rear wall reflective, Apogee recommended this for my Duetta Sigs. Treating corners and wall interfaces should be the same for both in my experience. The basic Michael Green kit is inexpensive and should...
Who has dumped the power conditioner?
Also have gone to dedicated lines. My Tice is now in my video system where it improved the picture of my 50" plasma.
Advice going from SS to tubes?
Unless you know exactly why you want to switch I wouldn't. It is akin to starting over. If you have a system that is satisfying you now do not believe that all its virtues will be preserved in your new one. All systems are tradeoffs and many audio...
Has anyone heard the Bladelius Embla?
With a name like that how can they fail? Computer generated do you suppose?
Room Treatment: Whatcha Got?
I use Michael Green's basic kit, works well and is cheap. At one time I had a complete live end -dead end room using Sonnex.
Classe DR-5 Pre-Amp
I used one when I was a dealer for them in the late 80s. It is still a good unit. I think I used an A-T OC9 and a Denon 110. The Denon is a high output moving coil and is quite reasonable. It is as good or better than the 160 according to reviews ...
4 Ohm Speaker with an "8 Ohm Minimum" Reciever
Probably not but you can add a 4 ohm resistor to the speaker wire if you are really worried. This was done in the very early days of transistors on occasion. What effect it would have on the sound I have no idea.
B&W 804S & 825 Floor Spike Thread Pitch
Star Sound carries this size, it is the same as my Mini Utopias.
Not sure I am hearing what I think
I'm sorry but I don't have any of those and my experiences comparing new and old CDs has been contradictory. Sometimes they are greatly improved and sometimes compressed or otherwise screwed up. The new ones SHOULD be better as new technology is a...
No phono input on Jadis but want to buy tunrtable
Not all phono stages are capable of use with low output moving coil cartridges; it depends on their sensitivity. You can use one of the inputs on your integrated amp for the phono stage. You do not need a separate preamp, you have one inside the i...
Can I use my passive preamp with tube amps?
The fewer things in the reproduction chain, the better it sounds. Nothing sounds as good as nothing is a reasonably accurate description. I use both but for the greatest detail passive is very hard to beat. Some will still prefer active but passiv...
