Best, or ideal record clamp
The ideal one is probably one of Harmonix's. I think one is $1895 and the other is $3500. I should know as I am one of their dealers but as I have never contemplated selling one I don't. Meanwhile, back on planet reality, I like VPI's ring and wei...
Dedicated lines
While it would probably be slightly better to run new ones I don't think you will experence any drop if the splice is done properly. If voltage dropped at every splice it wouldn't get very far. I would go with the splice myself unless I was going ...
Experiences with MF KW550 and BW802d
For what its worth I use to use 801s and currently use an NuVista M3 and think these would have worked very well together. The B&Ws need power and MF has plenty. HIFINEWS had a good review of the 550 but I can't remember if they used B&Ws.
Spendor speakers
I was a former dealer, still use them, have SP1s, SP 1/2Es, SP 2s, S-100s. The ones or one/2s are very good and often very reasonable. The 100s are very good in larger rooms, the twos in smaller ones. I use a pair of REL subs with mine. I think th...
Can Denon DL103 Cartridge Match RB700 Arm?
If the only problem is the actual cartridge weight you can always add weight. Some cartridges use to come with a lead weight for this purpose. One hesitates to suggest blutaking a penny to top of headshell but it would probably work, I would look ...
Sub for 2 channel music only setup
REL "S" series. There really is a difference, HT subs are for sound effects and ones like these are for music.
MH a300 vs A3.5?
I think the 3.2 might be better than the 3.5. They call all of them dual mono but they seem to be less so as the series progressed. The NuVista M3 is really good but runs $2k or so. I have one. For less money I would go with the 300 or 3.2.
Linn vs VPI?
I have both, I am a VPI dealer and I just bought a used Linn. Can't give a final answer because I am still getting the Linn properly set up. I disagree that the VPI is hard to set up, I have been setting them up since 1962,it seems to me that it i...
any nitty gritty dirt band fans out there
Yes. I have all three "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" sets; recommend them all, but for the first make sure you get the remastered CDs, close to the LPs. The first CDs were horrible. Have some of their other stuff too, all good.
Exposure 2010S verses 3010S
A cardinal error is to hear something you really like and suppose that the more expensive units in the same line are NECESSARILY better. Each amp represents a compromise and to get increased power a different set of them are necessary. If the 2010...
Sugden - Electrocompaniet - Naim - Accuphase
I was reporting on a test of the A21A which did not meet its power rating and did not sound particularly good. Your assumption that the addition of SE somehow transforms it into a more powerful and much better sounding amp is based on what? SE edi...
Sugden - Electrocompaniet - Naim - Accuphase
" or it is a slightly different model" Celtic66, what part of this did you not read?In any case I am somewhat prejudiced against Sugden: years ago I ordered the great, great, --- grandfather of this amp direct from them. It arrived in Chicago wire...
Micro Seiki BL91
I use to sell Micro and used a 91 myself back then, still a very good table, hate to think what it would cost now. My only advice would be to check the arm mass and cartridge compliance to avoid a mismatch.
Upgrading from Wilson Sophia 2's?
Also used MSB Platinum 200, C-J 350SA, AR Ref. 3 amps and XTC preamp.
Upgrading from Wilson Sophia 2's?
HIFICRITIC used Transparent XL Ref and Yter as loudspeaker cables and Cardas Golden Reference and VDH The First Ultimate ICs. The speakers were +/-3dB 26 to 23kHz. That is with the grills removed, which was essential for best performance.
