Bel Canto DAC vs. Perpetual Tech P3A? In response to Tubegroover's comments, I would like to add the following. I recently sent my P3-A bach to Perp Tech to fix a documented problem with the Crystal chip set. I bring this up because the tonal characteristic (which was amazingly smooth...
Bel Canto DAC vs. Perpetual Tech P3A? www.hometheaterhifi.com has a review comparing the 2 DACS - WITHOUT the P1-A. You may want to check it out. I use the P3-A and I am simply astounded by it. I think the P3-A and the Bel Canto have very different tonal characteristics (neither is be...
Best beadroom speaker under $350 (NHT?) The NHT superones are great, particularly if you replace ypur acurus with the Jolida. With the solid state Acurus, I would go with the Acoustic Energy Aegis 1 - it is an absolutely INCREDIBLE speaker, particulary when you consider its price - 300 ...
Most achingly-beautiful music What a GREAT thread - I can't believe I only just stumbled upon it. Some things that come to mind - 1) American Tune by Simon & Garfunkel - almost always leaves me all choked up. 2) Diamonds and Rust by Joan Baez - which is the most beautiful ...
Sunfire True Sub Jr. VS. M&K VX-100 Thanks to all of you for your input. Compact size is really the key in my case. Montoya, I saw your ad for the MX 70B - unfortunately, its about 20 inches high and that's too tall for my space. I am now also considering the Gallo Acoustics MPS 150...
Best integrated with pre/main out/$650 I am with Patriot - the NAD 317 is as good as any amp upto $2000. I think the Happy Medium (happymedium.com) sells 'em for around $600 - right around your budget. BTW it is twice as expensive as the NAD C340 suggested by Doctorjest and if you know...
Best female vocals on CD Audiogon is the only place that I have contributed to any discussion and I must say that I am glad I did. I usually avoid chat groups because of the personal and often vituperative attacks that are so charecteristic of them. This particular thread...
Best female vocals on CD First, let me admit that my previous post was a bit over the top - I wrote it as I was listening to Billie on my headphones and was struck (as always) by how "different" DK is from . Now clearly, "different" is not the same thing as worse, and I c...
Best female vocals on CD I agree with Rayhall. I find it painful to listen to Krall's "interpretations" of standards. Just listen to Billie Holiday sing All or Nothing At All- and then listen to Krall's version on Love Scenes - it makes me want to gag. Her cds ARE well re...
Hum in the system You can buy a cheater plug from any hardware store - it is essentially a 2-prong plug, with a 3-prong socket on the other end into which you can plug your component's 3-prong plug. It is NOT intended as a device to drop the ground - it has a littl...
psb vs, klipsch. I agree with the others here that PSB speakers are incredible. They are amazingly balanced across the sound spectrum and remain one of the best values in audio. I have not heard the Image series but I HAVE heard the alphas, the Century series as w...
interconnect for CAL delta/alpha pair The DH Labs D-110 AES/EBU cable is a tremendous value - there seem to be quite a few DH Labs dealers on Audiogon offering great deals. I have the D-75 (75 ohm) cable and I couldn't be more pleased.
Hum in the system A quick follow-up. It turned out that the hum was caused by a faulty power supply. MSB sent me a new power supply and voila!, no hum. I don't need to use the cheater plug any longer, which I am really glad about. Again, thanks for the suggestions.
Hum in the system Thanks for all your responses. I was on the phone with MSB tech support and their suggestion (after we had tried a couple of other things) was to use a cheater plug. That worked.
