120Volts to 220Volts?
You could get a step down transformer to drop the 220 v to 120. Is the frequency in Singapore 50 Hz? If so you may need to talk with the manufacturer. I feel the isolation from the transformer(s) could be of help in filtering out electrical line n...
How to wire a powerful amp with two speakers to avoid damage
Thank you, 1439bhr, for the excellent explnation as to the damage caused by under powered amps. I like to see posts that explain why things happen so that everyone can better understand what is happening inside their 'black' boxes. I hope to see m...
Passive Stage preamp vs Active Stage Preamp
It has been shown that any realtime electrical signal (music)can be broken down into a series of sine waves of varying amplitude, frequency, and phase using the Fourier transform. Fourier analysis shows that music is composed of a linear sum of ma...
How to wire a powerful amp with two speakers to avoid damage
Sean is correct. More speakers get damaged from underpowered amps than from overpowered ones. The amount of power delivered to the speakers is dependant upon the voltage delivered to the speaker, which is dependant upon the volume control. If you ...
Passive Stage preamp vs Active Stage Preamp
It has been said many times that simpler is better. I believe that to be true in a lot of situations but is not always true in passive preamp. Albert talks about impedance matching being a problem in passives. It is a misnomer to talk about matchi...
"gear-heads": OLD subwoofer help needed
Just like Kely I remember RTR from the dark past. I will think on it and post again if I remember more. Chris
John Dunlavy On "Cable Nonsense"
Frank, I am not sure what all effects the sound of cables, but I do feel safe to say (quoting a friend in the know) "everything makes a differance".I do feel that no connector is better than a connector and there is a lot of connectors with wider ...
John Dunlavy On "Cable Nonsense"
I do believe that cables can be 'engineered'. When you change the capacitance and inductance of a cable you are effecting a parameter called the "charateristic impedance"(I will use CI for short). In normal zip cord type wire, the CI is approximat...
John Dunlavy On "Cable Nonsense"
I personally know Tom. I would be interested in his comments on cables and controlled listening. I have done some controlled listening with him. Plus4dbu, please give us a report.
Rudeness With 'net Sales
I have bought two items on Audiogon with total satisfaction. I am sure ther is a bad apple here and there and I hope I don't run into them in the future. I want to thank Gunbei for his comments about the people here. I feel the same way!
Monoblocks or upgrade to larger amp?
One possiability is to get the 250 and see if does the trick. Before getting rid of the 100 try using it with an active crossover just driving the top end and the 250 on the bottom. It could be the best of both ideas. Chris
I normally don't ask for help, but.....
My sister and the wife of a close friend has overcome cancer just last year. I believe in miricals and I hope one happens for Cindy.Chris
John Dunlavy On "Cable Nonsense"
Abe, I really do agree with you 100%. It does seem silly to spend dollars a foot on power cables when the Romex is roughly 10 cents a foot. I do not plan on spending my stereo allocation for the next six months on a power cable. Because of my elec...
John Dunlavy On "Cable Nonsense"
Abe, It is common practice for a system owner to change interconnects in an attempt to 'produce' the sound he desires. I think you can agree that they can alter the sound. Speaker cables are the same way.Now to make a point about the lack of quali...
How much are you worth ?
Not much, and in the last two months I spent 5% of my yearly income in a CD store. My wife took the credit cards, but I have some great new stuff to write a review about!
