2nd system? Older Carver gear....
I agree with Glenfihi. I just replaced my CT7 pre and TFM 24 amp with B&K gear, but I'm finding it hard to let go of them. I may look at the used market and see what they are going for. I bought my Carver gear new in '91 and have never had a p...
Old Classic Receivers: A Mistake to Buy?
I'm glad I spotted this thread.Growing up, my prents were all about listening to music. Mostly rock i.e., Led Zep, The Who, Jethro Tull, etc. When I left for the Army in '87 they put the stereo in storage, mainly because they did'nt listen to it mu...
preamp with only 1 set of pre-outs: adding sub....
I have a powered sub. I ran my pre-outs from the pre-amp to the high pass filter on the sub and from the outputs on the sub back to my amp and ran my speakers from my amp, using the crossover on my sub.
Bedroom speakers
Thanks for the responses. I have some home projects that I have to take care of before I buy anything. Probably be around december. Thanks again.
SVS Cylinder Subs - WAF
I looked at those also. I took a peice of cardboard and rolled it to the diameter and height of the sub, as given on the website. Not exactly a small footprint. I then mocked one up, again out of cardboard, to match the dimensions of one of their ...
How much power is to much power?
I'm definitely not the most estuste audiophile, or even really an audiophile, but to me wattage is somewhat like horsepower in a car. You don't need a lot of horsepower to get to the speed limit, but most of us still would like to have some extra ...
mono blocks with a powered sub?
Onemug, I didn't take your response as "demeaning" at all. To be frank, I want a system thats aesthetically pleasing to both the eyes and sonically to the ears. I actually like the look of mono's as compared to a single stereo amp. That may seem r...
mono blocks with a powered sub?
In response to "onemug", basically I;m a little on the "audio ignorant" side. I was curious about connecting this way. As usual, everyones responses answered some of the questions I had. Thanks for the responses
Girlfriends and wifes, how do YOU cope?
My wife and I have a deal. Bills first, savings second, our hobbies third. She's actually quite open minded to my hobbies (the other one involves 2 wheels). As long as everything gets paid, I buy what I want.
adding a sub
Thanks for your info Bob. I was wondering about that. It says only one cable, but I figured I'd need 2. I am expecting it Wed. I will get everything going and hopefully figure out the meter, I bought one of those also. Thanks again for your inform...
adding a sub
Thanks for all the info. I have found the information on this site extremely valuable. It is a fantasic resource. Bob, I bought a SVS PBS12 NSD.I apologize for my tendency to be redundant on some subjects, like this subwoofer, but I just want to ge...

adding a sub
Okay men, let me get this straight. The sub I bought, which hasn't arrived yet, has a "low level" input/output that are rca. Then there is a set of jacks, which look like speaker jacks, that say high level. However there are 4 of those jacks for e...
To biwire or not to biwire, that is the question??
Same composition, different gauge. That's why I was asking. It seems to me that the wires should be at least the same gauge. The dealer threw these cables in for free, so I wasn't going to complain, they were a lot better than the ones I had. I've...
To biwire or not to biwire, that is the question??
So if you bi-wire using 2 different sets of wires, do the wires need to be the same brand or at least the same gauge? I just bought Paradigm studio 40's and the dealer gave me some wires that are double runs in one jacket. I have them single wired...
