Is too much power in an amp really a problem? To me it's like horsepower. I don't necessarily need a lot, but it's nice to have "just in case" hehehe. I have a limit on my volume knob I just won't pass. I did recently hear a pair of Joseph Audio Pulsars being fed by a 85 wpc Sim Audio amp and...
Power conditioning I see I'll need a little more cash for a conditioner then. How about opinions on PS Audio Quintet? Or Furman Elite PF 15?
Do You Remember Your First CD Player? My parents bought me a Pioneer pdm 60 in '87 for graduation. I used it until last year. Now it's at a buddys house getting used almost daily. It came with a single cd cartridge and a 6 cd cartridge. The cd had to go in upside down. I never once ha...
AC cord for cdp I plan on ussing the dac for my computer, but was going to try it out with my cdp as well. I'll experiment and see what happens. Thanks for your responses.
Bookshelf Speaker for vintage Marantz 2230 Let us know. I'm looking for bookshelfs for my 2226.
Which Speakers to use with a Shanling - MC-30 Check out Fritzpeakers or maybe Tekton Design. I think they're very efficient speakers.I thought about that combo a while back and ended up cleaning up my old Marantz 2226 to use with a tube cdp. haven't gottem the speakers yet though.
Where to hook up DAC? To clarify I was curious what inputs to use for the DAC. I don't plan on running my cdp through it. However, I found I can "rename" the audio inputs on my pre-amp, so I use one of the other inputs for it. Thanks for your response.
The gift of music to our children Audiophile style I have no children but when I was a kid my parents had the stereo on more than the t.v. I remember an old pioneer turntable, a Marantz 2226 receiver, and some RTR speakers. My brother and I listened contantly to classic rock (it wasn't classic the...
DAC vs. New CDP I've been trying to make up my mind on this subject myself. I've decided to go with something like a Cambridge Audio 340/540 used. I think I can go this route relatively cheap. I want a dac to run my computer through during parties and what-not. A...
Moderate floorstanders for medium room I just listened to some Totem Sttafs in a room a little bigger than that and they filled the room nicely. Nice finish, good sound, Hawks may be in your price range also. Small in size, you're not going full range with them though.
Vintage amps - Carver, Krell I had a Carver TFM 24 for about 17 years. It handled every load I threw at it without getting above room temperature. It wasn't the most neutral sounding amp, but definitley loud and powerful. I was looking for a more nuetral sound, it was a bit d...
NOS Audio CDP Thanks for your response. It was the only info I could find. I e-mailed the company that made the cdp and they were somewhat excited to tell me the story of it. Apparently there were only about 40 made. They are heavily modded Sherwood models. The...
Marantz 2226 I have sound. Actually sounds pretty good. Why my lazy a$$ didn't just plug it in and try it in the first place is beyond me. Thanks for your response.
Installation of B&W 683 into a wall cubby If you're building the cabinet, or having it custom built, consider allowing a little more room on the sides to slip acoustic foam or panel inside the cubby.
who needs a cd player anymore The same people who still need a turntable. Music lovers. |
