The best books on music
The Miles Davis biography is a killer, he was a wild and crazy guy,and the most interesting bio. of an music figure that I have read.. "This Wheel's On Fire", the Levon Helm and The Band story is a fun book. Also "Written In My Soul" conversations...

Where does your user name come from?
My moniker is the title of an instrumental tune from an old rock album(which I am listening to as I write). If any one knows from where feel free to email me. The name reminds me of a leaf gently floating with an eddy. Cheers
The METERS....tight,funky vibes
Hi,check sound files on the web to any of the Meters discs. You would probably like the early Neville Brothers stuff as well since the Meters evolved into the Neville Brothers. Kid Creole and The Coconuts might be for you also. You mentioned you li...
Your 5 Fav Rock Concerts
I posted on this thread earlier and only listed one. I thought I would list a few others as well. A Miles Davis, Santana concert in '68 at CW Post on LI I think and Miles opened as he often did for rock bands in the 60s and 70s(and he hated it). G...
Dave Holland's LPs
Tim, I forgot to mention ARC also on ECM, a Chic Corea, Dave Holland, Barry Altschul band and some interesting music here as well. Another bass player nugget I love is "Uptown Conversation" by Ron Carter on the Embryo label some very slow introspe...
Sumiko Premier MMT Arm VTA?
Viridian, you are right, I feel like an Idiot. I set this unit up myself new and replaced the horrible stock arm myself with present one. That was a life time ago and several moves and divorce and mondo memory loss and obviously I no longer have t...
Dave Holland's LPs
Tim, if you like Dave Holland you should check out titles by Eberhard Weber, also on ECM.He is a beautiful, elegant player at home in different settings. Check out a solo effort"Pendulum" wonderful music that can truly take you away.I also saw the...
Sumiko Premier MMT Arm VTA?
Viridian, thanks for your response but I really think that there is not a VTA adjustment on my arm. I believe the arm I have is an early model and the VTA adjustment was built into subsiquent "improved"arms. There are no verticle adjustment set sc...

For the Reggae fans "The Harder They Come" will hit the spot. For someone looking for a place to get into Reggae a good one to start. The Ry Cooder ones mentioned above are fine."Super Fly"stands on its own as does Harry Nilsson's "The Point" (with...
AR ES–1 Problem.... Suggestions
The spindle is square and true with no wear or damage I can see.The platter doesn't seem to be spinning as free and easy as it should and the very low grade brushing–rubbing–grinding sound is ever present. I believe I will try to contact the sourc...
AR ES–1 Problem.... Suggestions
I did some trouble shooting before posting and did the things that Viridian suggests. The brushing–grinding is in the bearing, seat area. There is another problem though which is motor related. Even while the unit is off the motor trembles-vibrate...
Where R U?????
Etowah(Beautiful Valley In Cherokee), not too far from Ashville in western NC.
Laid back, mellow, sax/jazz
There are some good suggestions above. I agree with the Paul Desmond post. He was consistently the most beautifully lyrical, sweet player that I have ever heard (alto) and I am a serious collector and listener(35 years). There are many titles in hi...
For all of you who feel deeply about Keith Jarrett
I first became aware of Keith Jarrett on the early Charles LLoyd lps with Jarrett on piano, Cecil Mcbee on bass and Jack DeJonette on drums and of course Lloyd on sax and flute. His work then was fantastic and he has grown to be a true giant with ...
