Cartridge question
@yogiboy  Thanks for the detailed information.  I always thought one would want the resonance well below the typical warp frequencies of 9 to 10 Hz,  Apparently, that is not the case?
Adjusting speaker sound levels when streaming
There is a major tradeoff using a digital volume control versus an analog one.  A few companies have addressed the problem digitally, but in general, use an analog volume control whenever possible if you are fussy about sound quality.
How properly covered internal sides of enclosures for speakers with a passive radiator?
All the passive radiators I have seen use acoustic stuffing material in the the cabinet and/or transmission line.   Just because you have a passive radiator, it doesn't change the need for damping cabinet resonances.   You can use fiberglass insul...
HDCP has made my processor obsolete
I can't answer that question but I can tell you I am sure it will be resolved in the future.  These digital protection schemes only work when they are compatible and fail when they are not.   Odds are there will be a fix out there soon.  If Rotel ...
Advice for bookshelf speakers
Easy answer, as I had very similar requirements.  I found the Paradigm Atom bookshelf speakers to fit the bill.  The white ones are especially attractive and they also make a matching center channel.  When I first got them, my main speakers were i...
Belden 83803 mains cable
I would think that cable would be ideal for digital or for any power application.  How you terminate the shield will affect the sound.  I suggest you tie the shield to the chassis and leave the other end open while the ground wire is connected at ...
Why do I only hear popping from one speaker?
I would not think it is the cartridge, or you would be hearing it on multiple albums.  Likewise for a loose connection in the phono setup.  However, that being said, do check all the connections starting at the cartridge.  It is possible that one ...
The Great Cartridge Shootout
I'll check out the references, & thanks for the compliments, I appreciate it!  A short update on the Shootout - Some folks prefer the ADC, some prefer the Grado setup.  They both have advantages over the other, On a side note, I am getting r...
Will this stuff ruin my records?
The only way you will know for sure is to try it on a less desirable record.  The better it sounds after cleaning, the better the solution.   I can only think the VPI will improve its performance, not hinder it.
Cartridge question
If there was a problem with your headshell, you wouldn't be asking this question!   I'd skip the replacement unless you know there is a problem with it.
Shipping Magnepan 3.7i
I did some years back.  They are big enough to require truck freight.  Do make sure you get in writing how long the trip will take, Yellow Freight took 7 months to ship them back from Maggie to CA but only two weeks to get to Maggie. Do box them ...
IC cable to address RF coming from nearby FM station
Here are some suggestions for cable clamp ferrites.  You can get them mail order from DigiKey, they are cheap really.  Note the lossy impedance ratings, so the one that is slightly more expensive is somewhat better if you buy just one.  That ratin...
IC cable to address RF coming from nearby FM station
@converge Hi there - Yes, I had a ugly situation from my neighbor who had a very illegal CB radio with a high power transmitter.  It was bleed into my stereo to the point I could hear the conversation.   Through process of elimination, I fixed it ...
what you think about gryphon atlantis -- i am not surprise at all anyone one with me?
I am not familiar with that speaker, but maybe it was defective.  Big speakers usually don't have a problem with bass if they are designed properly.  Likewise with the treble.
Butcherblock Acoustics "feet" effecting sound and isolation
@blue_collar_audio_guy   I would pay attention to what carlsbad posted.  As an engineer, I can tell you that what he stated here is spot on correct.   From what you wrote, you are not isolating, you are coupling in a significant manner.  Look at ...
