JTR Speakers, why so much?
They do look rather pedestrian; i.e. pro drivers mounted in a generic black enclosure. Not the most inspiring design. Is their sound deserving of the price is the question. As to the pricing, it's not as outrageous as I was expecting. I was antici...
DISCUSSION: "It only comes out at night". Does anyone else have this experience!?
The main reason I prefer night listening is the darkness. I want my room to be as dark as possible so the speakers disappear. Even the soft glow of tubes lights up the room more than I like. Secondary reasons are work and other obligations during...
New Tidal Plans and Changes
With Tidal anything higher than 16/44.1 FLAC is packaged in MQA. That's a big advantage for Qobuz, which offers hi-res files in FLAC.
Your last concert was to see who and when?
Greensky Bluegrass, Railroad Earth, and Holly Bowling 9/19/21 @ Red Rocks Great music and atmosphere. The encore was a real treat; 27 minutes of pure jamming from amazing musicians.
Headphones vs full range speakers
I did experience many moments of "rocking out" with the headphones. They were fun to listen to when cranking them up. The speakers are more emotionally involving with their sense of real performers in the room.
Faulty hearing.
I've often noticed I hear the center image slightly left of center. Never had my hearing tested, but wouldn't be surprised of an inbalance of my ears.
looking for a chair
I would avoid using too large of a chair or sofa. I switched from a small barrel chair to a large arm chair. The arm chair is more comfy, but I noticed a drop in coherence and focus in the soundstage. My room is quite small, however, and the new c...
What are you streaming tonight?
Tonight I'm enjoying an evening with Ramblin' Jack Elliott
New Tidal Plans and Changes
That's great. I'll downgrade my plan. I distrust MQA, and prefer having access to 16/44.1 instead. The lower cost makes it an even easier decision.   Thanks for the verification.
New Tidal Plans and Changes
For those who have changed their plan from Tidal HiFi Plus to HiFi, have you noticed any loss of content? Given Tidal's strong push for MQA (of which I dislike), they only offer the MQA version when available. It is not possible to choose between ...
Headphones vs full range speakers
I had a fairly high end Stax rig before building my speaker system. The speakers image and soundstage in a way that is physically impossible for headphones to accomplish. You go from sound in between your ears to performers seemingly in the room w...
If you stream music from the internet, I can't recommend this more highly
If the laptop is connected directly to the DAC, then a dedicated streamer will perform better. The goal is to separate the noisy computer as best possible.

The opticalRendu is functionally just a USB to fiber adapter. Similar results can be accomplished with a media converter on one end and an adapter on the other for a lot less money. However, there is one large distinction that sets the Rendu apart...

@hiphiphan No problem. Adding to my prior post, ethernet is asynchronous so jitter is not an issue.

@dougeyjones Different optical we're talking here. The topic is on ethernet over fiber optic, not TOSLINK over fiber optic.
