Best used integrated under $5k
I bought a used McIntosh MAC6700 well under that and it has everything I need. You might even be able to get the HD Radio TM-3 Tuner for it and still be under $5000 too. I am still amazed by how clear HD radio can sound through my system, and I ne...
Loudness - Why has the industry stopped producing amplifiers with this feature any longer?
I have tone controls on my main integrated but still use a Schiit EQ to pull out a little midrange. I run Klipsch speakers, so they can be a little bright, which I knew when I bought them. That is the closest I can get to a loudness curve. The curr...
Magico vs the world
At Axpona last year the two best systems I heard were Magico M6's and the B&W 800D3's. Magico's running off of D'Agostino gear, B&W all Mcintosh gear. The amazing thing about the Magico display was that it was literally in an open air atri...
Why the woofer moves badly when playing certain LPs
That is crazy! Does your receiver have a rumble filter on it? My old Yamaha R900 had a button for "Sub-Sonic Filter" which was supposed to take care of the really low frequency stuff coming off records. I have not seen this on modern gear though.-...
Schiit not that Good?
I'll hop onto this two year old thread!I was at Axpona 2019 and thought the Schiit room didn't compare well either. I have a Loki in my system, and it did have to go back for service (the infamous humm), but it sounds great now. Service was excell...
Non-rear ported Speakers
I have a set of those Wharfedale 225’s with the slot port on the bottom. You can literally set the bass in the room by how close they are to the wall behind them - the closer they are too the wall, the more bass you get. I like them.-Geoff
Friend needs advice for $8,000 system
I know he is set on Magnepans, but I would beg him to reconsider if his music is any type with the word "Rock" in it. If he likes cranking it up, then he will be sorely disappointed. The Magnepans are so inefficient, that a reasonably priced tube ...
Disappointing On Mcintosh......help
I have a McIntosh MAC6700 receiver and I use the tone controls on it as well as a Schiit Loki to cut the midrange (The McIntosh bass and treble controls seem to do a better job than the Schiit, but they don’t have a midrange control). Every once i...
Help with picking new integrated for under 3k
I listened to an Anthem STR running into Paradigm Persona 7's at Axpona this year, and it was one of the best sounding systems I heard the entire day. Everyone was saying the sound quality was a product of the room correction, but they made a hote...
Klipsch!. The worst speaker company, EVER?
Running a set of RF7-III's right now and I LOVE them with zero buyers remorse. I spent a lot of time auditioning speakers after a near impulse buy of my MAC6700 on craigslist. Every speaker in the $2k-$3k price range was half the size and didn't g...
Suggestions for an amp
Does the Yamaha sound bad? If you kept it, maybe pick up a used Parasound HCA1200ii - I just saw one on that list site by me for like $500. Then use your Yamaha to run all the surround speakers and the Parasound to run the Monitors. Then you can t...
Which Nakamichi to choose?
Good info in here once you get past the turd stuff. I think some people don't understand that many of us old timers who grew up in the 80's have boxes and boxes of cassettes laying around and no way to listen to them. I have been shopping for a wh...
Best subwoofer below 40Hz for Magnepan .7?
I had some .7's and had the same issue you are talking about. I had one 10" Klipsch sub from the early 2000's and bought a matching sub for it on ebay for $140. I put them in opposite corners of the room and they filled in perfectly. They wanted a...
